Social activist Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi dies by suicide

She was recently in the news after she posted allegations of irregularities in MSS on social media.

Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi, Public health expert and CEO of Maharogi Seva Samiti (MSS) at Anandwan in Chandrapur district has died by suicide. This comes following days of a family feud in the Amte family. Granddaughter of Baba Amte and daughter of Dr Vikas Amte, she was recently in the news after she posted allegations of irregularities in MSS on social media. This is the parent trust that runs all their charitable institutions.

As per local media reports coming from Chandrapur, Amte-Karajgi was admitted to Sub-district Hospital in Warora earlier today where she was declared dead by the doctors. Amte-Karajgi was said to be under stress for a while.

As per a video message posted by her on social media, she had alleged irregularities in the Amte family and the management of the Trust. She had deleted the post within a couple of hours. Baba Amte’s sons Prakash Amte and Vikas Amte had also issued clarifications denying the allegations made by Amte-Karajgi.

After becoming a doctor, Amte-Karajgi had joined her family in working at Anandwan. She was instrumental in the installation of solar power panels in Anandwan community.
