Pune: Following demand by the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), the Office of Postmaster General, Pune Region, has announced that in case the pensioners of the postal department are unable to visit the office to collect pension, arrangement will be made for the payment of pension at their residences. The INTUC had been demanding this for a long time, as several of the pensioners had been struggling to collect pension.

“With age, it becomes difficult for senior citizens to travel to post offices and stand in queues to collect pension every month. Some people send their children to collect it. However, we have seen cases where the children gave only half the amount to their parents, while kept half for themselves. The postal department has now made the decision to send the pension to the pensioner through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS),” said Manohar Gadekar, General Secretary, INTUC.

As per a letter issued by the Assistant Postmaster General in this regard, the pensioners would need to submit a written application to the concerned post office to receive payment at home.

INTUC had also pointed out that at some post offices, the senior citizens suffered as there were long queues, or the post offices were situated on top floors. It was decided in the meeting with the authorities at the Office of Postmaster General that these issues will be taken care of in order to make the process convenient for the senior citizens.
