Delhi court allows CBI to close case of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed: Hindustan Times
Hindustan Times reports that Delhi court on Monday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation to close the missing case of former JNU student Najeeb Ahmed. He had gone missing on October 15, 2016. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Maheshwari accepted the central probe agency's closure report, but also granted liberty to reopen the case if any evidence in the matter is found, the reports adds.
At least 12 dead in major blast at Telangana chemical factory, Indian Express
At least 12 people died and 36 were injured in a reactor blast at a chemical factory in Sangareddy district of Telangana on Monday, Hindustan Times reports. The incident took place between duty hours at Sigachi Chemicals in Pashamylaram industrial area. The report says there were a total of 61 people in the building when the blast took place, and several are still trapped inside. Fire Department officials said 11 fire tenders were sent to the spot for rescue and relief operation. Read the full report here.
Hundreds of families displaced by wave of Israeli air strikes on Gaza, BBC reports
Israel has carried out a wave of air strikes across the Gaza Strip, triggering the mass displacement of hundreds of Palestinian families, BBC reports. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of five people, while dozens of injured civilians were evacuated to Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, according to local reports. The bombardment follows one of the largest evacuation orders issued since the war resumed in March. The report adds that it comes amid increasing pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refocus efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement. Read the full report here.
Railways to prepare reservation charts 8 hours in advance, NDTV
NDTV reports that the Ministry of Railways has decided to prepare reservation charts for long-distance trains eight hours in advance, instead of the current four hours, to help passengers travelling from remote locations plan their journeys better. The decision was taken during a recent review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, a statement issued by the ministry said. The report says that officials are working to prepare the reservation chart eight hours before the train's departure instead of the current four hours. Read the full report here.
Al Jazeera: Turkiye battles wildfires in Izmir for second day
Turkiye has evacuated four villages and two neighbourhoods in its western province of Izmir as firefighters battle wildfires for the second day, according to local authorities. Al Jazeera reports that Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said on Monday that the blaze was fanned overnight by winds reaching 40-50kmph in Kuyucak and Doganbey areas of Izmir. Helicopters, fire-extinguishing aircraft and other vehicles, and more than 1,000 people were trying to extinguish the fires, Yumakli told reporters in Izmir. Read the full report here.
