India Today as per sources: Pahalgam attack mastermind among 3 terrorists killed
The mastermind of the Pahalgam attack was among three Pakistani terrorists killed in an encounter in Srinagar under Operation Mahadev, India Today reports as per its sources. Top Lashkar commander Suleiman Shah, alias Musa Fauji, was the conspirator and executor of the attack, which left 26 civilians dead. The report says they were caught napping before being neutralised. NDTV on Supreme Court statement on rising stray dog bite cases
NDTV reports that the Supreme Court on Monday took suo motu cognisance of a media report about incidents of dog bites leading to rabies and called it "very disturbing and alarming". "The news item contains some alarming and disturbing figures and facts," a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who has been raising the issue, welcomed the move, the report adds. Read the full report here.
More than 40 killed in DR Congo attack linked to Islamic State, BBC reports
More than 40 people were killed in an attack by an Islamic State affiliate in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the UN and the military said. BBC reports that most of them were worshippers taking part in a night vigil at a church in the town of Komanda when they were attacked by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters. Nine of those killed were children, the UN peacekeeping mission said. Nearby shops and businesses were looted and set on fire, the report adds. The ADF emerged in Uganda in the 1990s, accusing the government there of persecuting Muslims, but is now based over the border in DR Congo, where it regularly attacks civilians of all religions, as well as in Uganda. Google officials depose before ED in online betting linked PMLA case: Hindustan Times
Representatives of Google on Monday deposed before the Enforcement Directorate as part of a money laundering probe linked to the promotion of "illegal" online betting and gambling platforms, Hindustan Times. Executives from Meta did not depose, they said. The ED had called the officials of the two tech giants, first on July 21 and later extended their deposition to July 28 as they sought more time to appear. Read the full report here.
The Straits Times: Gunman kills 5 near Bangkok’s Chatuchak market before taking own life
At least six people were killed and one other person was wounded in a shooting at a popular fresh food market near Bangkok’s famed Chatuchak bazaar, The Straits Times reports. “Police are investigating the identity of the person and the motive for the incident,” Thai police said in a statement. The five people killed by the gunman were security guards at the market, it said, as per the report. The fatalities include the gunman, who took his own life, Charin Gopatta, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau. Read the full report here.
