NDTV report on Himachal CM dismissing resignation rumours amid political crisis

After yesterday's defeat in the Rajya Sabha elections, Indian National Congress is facing another crisis in Himachal Pradesh as BJP has raised a question over the majority of the government. NDTV report says that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu rubbished talk of his resignation. The crisis arose when six congress MLAs and three independents who offered support to Congress candidates cross-voted and sided with the BJP. The Mint: Akhilesh Yadav was summoned by CBI in Uttar Pradesh illegal mining case

 

As per a report by The Mint, central investigation agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav in connection with an illegal mining case on Wednesday. Yadav was asked to join the investigation on February 29 as a witness before the probe agency. The report highlights that the probe was ordered by the Allahabad High Court and it pertains to the issuance of mining leases in alleged violation of the e-tendering process. It is alleged that public servants allowed illegal mining when Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, the reports states. Read the full report here

 

BBC reports Biden wins Michigan primary despite Gaza protest vote

US President is projected to win Michigan's Democratic presidential primary comfortably, suggests a BBC report. The report states that Biden is likely to win despite a strong protest vote over his stance toward war in Gaza. As per the report Activists have asked Democrats to vote "uncommitted" and tens of thousands chose to do so. But even after that projection suggests Mr Biden won 80% of the vote overall. China lauds Russia relations and calls for strengthened Asia-Pacific role: Al Jazeera

As per a report By Al Jazeera, China has heralded relations with Russia as the former called for the pair to coordinate on security, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that both nations should play a better role as an anchor of stability in the changing circumstances of the century. The statement was issued on Wednesday by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong following a visit to Moscow, according to the report. Singapore’s total fertility rate hits record low in 2023, The Straits Times

 

For the first time in the Republic’s history, the resident total fertility rate (TFR) in Singapore dropped below 1, The Straits Times reports. As per the statement given by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Indranee Rajah, the preliminary estimates indicate a resident TFR of 0.97 in 2023. The report further mentions that the low fertility rate in Singapore comes amid a growing aging population, posing twin demographic challenges for Singapore. The TFR denotes to the average number of babies each woman would have during her reproductive years. Read the full report here.
