Indian Express: AAP wants Congress removed from alliance
The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday said that national convener Arvind Kejriwal is “upset” with Congress party over their statements and complaints filed against AAP leading up to the Delhi election 2025, Indian Express reports. The party also said that they will speak to other members of the INDIA bloc to push Congress out of the alliance. Arvind Kejriwal said at a press conference today that more details regarding the future of the alliance will be shared shortly by party leader Sanjay Singh. Trump to direct prosecutors to vigorously pursue death penalty for violent criminals, TeleSUR reports
US President-elect Donald Trump stated that he would direct the Department of Justice (DOJ) to “vigorously” pursue the death penalty in cases of violent crimes. TeleSUR reports that his remarks come a day after U.S. President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of 37 out of the 40 people on federal death row. Only three inmates remain on death row. The report says that the Democrat politician defended his decision, stating that the United States “must end the use of the federal death penalty, except in cases of terrorism and hate-driven mass murders.” Read the full report here.
72-hour blockade in Jammu's Katra against Vaishno Devi ropeway project, Hindustan Times
The Mata Vaishno Devi ropeway project in Jammu region faced a 72-hour blockade starting December 25 in Katra, Hindustan Times reports. Local business owners, including shopkeepers and pony wallas, joined a bandh organised by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti, vowing to suspend all activities in the town during the protest. They stated that all activity in Katra would be halted during the protest. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said last month that it would be installing a ropeway to make it easier for elderly people, children, and anyone who finds it difficult to walk the 13-kilometre trail, the report mentions. Dozens survive Kazakhstan passenger plane crash, BBC reports
BBC reports that dozens of people have survived a crash involving a plane carrying 67 people in Kazakhstan. Kazakh authorities said 38 people were killed in the crash. The plane was en route to Grozny in Russia but it was diverted due to fog, the airline told the BBC. The Kremlin said on Thursday that it would not "put forward hypotheses" about the cause of the crash until the investigation was finished. Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243 caught fire as it attempted to make an emergency landing near the Kazakh city of Aktau, the report adds. Read the full report here.
