Hindustan Times: Neeraj Chopra ends silence on inviting Arshad Nadeem to India
The Neeraj Chopra Classic Javelin Throw event is set to be held on May 24 in Bengaluru. But reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem rejected the invitation due to other commitments, Hindustan Times reports. Speaking to the media in Pakistan, Nadeem recently revealed that he would not be able to participate in Neeraj Chopra’s event due to training commitment for the Asian Athletics Championship. The competition will take place from May 27-31 and Nadeem said that he was scheduled to leave for South Korea on May 22. Read the full report here.
Amit Shah to CMs, identify all Pakistanis in India: NDTV
The Home Ministry has asked states to identify and deport all Pakistan nationals staying or living within their jurisdiction, NDTV reports as per its sources, adding Home Minister Amit Shah had spoken personally to all chief ministers. On Wednesday, India said it had cancelled all visas for Pak nationals as part of a five-step diplomatic counter-offensive following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Specifically, India said all visas would be revoked with effect from April 27, the report adds. Medical visas, the government said, would be valid for an additional 48 hours only. Latest Israeli strikes kill over 60 in Gaza, Al Jazeera
More than 60 people have been reported killed in Gaza since early on Thursday, Al Jazeera report. It said that casualties continue to mount as Israel carries out early morning attacks on the Palestinian territory. The Palestinian Civil Defence and medics said 12 people from the same family in north Gaza’s Jabalia were among those killed in the Israeli attacks, the report adds. The Health Ministry in Gaza reports that 1,978 people have now been killed and 5,207 injured since Israel broke its ceasefire with Hamas on March 18, 2025. Read the full report here.
Andhra govt to initiate disciplinary action on IPS officer for unauthorised foreign visits, Hindustan Times
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to initiate disciplinary action against suspended IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar for allegedly making several unauthorised foreign visits during the erstwhile YSRCP government, Hindustan Times reports. However, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand offered him an opportunity to submit a written statement in his defence or to appear in person to be heard within 30 days. The state government framed elaborate articles of charge in an annexure and a statement of imputations of misconduct or misbehaviour in support of the articles of charge, the report says. Thunderstorms lash Italy in aftermath of Storm Hans, The Guardian reports
After Storm Hans battered northern Italy in the runup to Easter, The Guardian reports that severe weather continued to lash much of the country this week. Since Tuesday, the conditions have triggered potent showers and thunderstorms and yellow and orange weather warnings have been issued. With winds generally remaining light this week, the greatest concerns surround the risks from intense rainfall, as slow-moving heavy showers can deliver a prolonged downpour to a fairly localised area, the report adds.
