Statehood protesters clash with cops in Ladakh, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that angry protesters clashed with the police in Leh city of Ladakh this morning, pelting stones at officials and even burning down a police vehicle, in the first such instance of violence during the ongoing statehood movement. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Leh today, demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards. They have been observing a hunger strike and called a complete shutdown today to press their statehood demand, the report says. Read the full report here.
Hindustan Times: Omar Abdullah slams FIR over ‘I Love Muhammad’
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday fiercely defended the right to express love for the Prophet Muhammad, questioning how three simple words — “I Love Muhammad” — could be deemed unlawful and urging the courts to act swiftly. Hindustan Times reports that The controversy began on September 9, when Kanpur police registered an FIR against nine named and 15 unidentified persons for allegedly putting up boards reading “I Love Mohammad” on a public road during a Barawafat (Eid Milad-un-Nabi) procession on September 4. The Straits Times: Typhoon Ragasa takes aim at China after leaving 14 dead in Taiwan
Super Typhoon Ragasa, the world’s most powerful tropical cyclone in 2025, barrelled towards tens of millions of people in southern China on Wednesday, The Straits Times reports, after killing 14 people in Taiwan, leaving scores missing and lashing Hong Kong with ferocious winds and heavy rains. Some 129 people were missing in Taiwan’s eastern Hualien county after a barrier lake overflowed and sent a wall of water into a town, the Taiwan fire department said, as per the report. Delhi ashram Swami accused of molesting women with help of staff, India Today
The head of a prominent ashram in the upscale Vasant Kunj locality in south Delhi is on the run after more than 15 women accused him of molestation, India Today reports. The Sri Sringeri Math administration has removed Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati from his post as director and the police have revealed his last known location in Agra. This isn't the first time that Chaitanyananda Saraswati, formerly known as Swami Parthasarathy, was accused of criminal charges. The report mentions that in 2009, a case of fraud and molestation was filed in Defence Colony, and in 2016, a woman in Vasant Kunj filed a molestation complaint. Read the full report here.
Jimmy Kimmel calls out 'anti-American' threats to free speech in tearful TV return, BBC reports
An emotional Jimmy Kimmel has criticised "anti-American" threats to free speech during his return to late-night US television - following a brief suspension after comments he made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. BBC reports that the comedian said during Tuesday's show - his first since the controversy - that "it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man". Kimmel also compared Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair Brendan Carr to a mob boss, and poked fun at President Donald Trump's appearance at the UN - including an escalator mishap, the report adds.
