5-year-old boy, who fell into borewell in Rajasthan, dies: Hindustan Times

The five-year-old boy who fell into a borewell in the Jhalawar district of Rajasthan on Sunday, Hindustan Times reports. He was stuck at 32-feet depth was brought out dead on early Monday morning after around 16-hour-long operation by the NDRF and SDRF. The rescue squads of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) pulled out the body at around 4 am on Monday, Gangdhar SDM Chhatarpal Choudhary said. Indian Express live updates on Telangana tunnel collapse rescue

 

Eight workers remain trapped in the debris after the SLBC tunnel in Telangana partially collapsed on Saturday, Indian Express reports. Now, a team of rat miners have been included in the rescue team to extricate the workers trapped under the collapsed portion of the tunnel. Notably, these are the same rat miners who were deployed in the rescue team of the Silkyara tunnel collapse in Uttarakhand almost two years ago, the report adds. Read the full report here.

 

Israel sends tanks into West Bank as Hamas says Gaza talks on hold, Al Jazeera

Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi says the Palestinian group will not engage in further ceasefire discussions until Israel releases 620 Palestinians who were supposed to be freed on Saturday, Al Jazeera reports. Israeli tanks have been deployed to the occupied West Bank for the first time in more than 20 years as part of an intensified military offensive that has displaced 40,000 Palestinians from refugee camps in the north. Hamas says says Israel’s decision to expand its operations in Jenin governorate and other parts of the northern occupied West Bank reveals its “dangerous intention to persist [in] the war of extermination”. NDTV on Prayagraj's desperate appeal to Maha Kumbh devotees

As the unrelenting Mahakumbh crowd continues to swell and cause disturbance to the daily life of Prayagraj residents, a local has publicly asked visitors to stop coming to the city, NDTV reports. In a post on Reddit, a resident said that Prayagraj has officially reached its "breaking point". The sheer volume of tourists has made it difficult for locals to go about their everyday lives. The user described the deteriorating circumstances of the city, saying it had congested highways, crowded public transportation, and even the smallest lanes crammed with people and cars, the report adds. BBC reports Germany's conservatives celebrate, but far right enjoy record result

 

Friedrich Merz's conservatives have won Germany's election, BBC reports, well ahead of rival parties but short of the 30 percent vote-share they had expected. The other winner was the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), who are celebrating a record second-place result of 20.8 percent. The report adds that the AfD's candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, did a victory lap of her supporters, but even her party had hoped for a greater result and the mood at AfD HQ was subdued.
