Hindustan Times: India set to curtail Russian oil imports after new US sanctions on Rosneft, Lukoil
India is set to curtail its Russian oil imports to comply with new US sanctions on two top Russian producers, Hindustan Times reports. That potentially removes a major hurdle to the India-US trade deal that's been in the works for months. To begin with, Reliance Industries Ltd. will stop its Russian oil imports under a 500,000 barrel/day deal with Rosneft—one of the Moscow-backed producers slapped with fresh sanctions, the report mentions. After days of negotiations, the Congress Thursday finally announced RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as the chief minister face of the Mahagathbandhan. In addition, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani was declared the alliance’s deputy chief minister face, with Congress leader Ashok Gehlot saying they could consider other names too as Deputy CMs after the polls. The Indian Express had reported that among the main issues holding up the seat-sharing deal between the RJD and Congress was the Congress’s refusal to endorse Tejashwi as the CM face before the polls. BBC on blackouts hitting Russia's Belgorod as Ukrainian drone attacks surge
Residents of Russia's Belgorod region say blackouts, air-raid sirens and the sound of gunfire aimed at incoming Ukrainian drones are becoming increasingly common, BBC reports, as Kyiv retaliates against repeated bombardments of its cities with cross-border strikes of its own. The number of Ukrainian drone attacks on the Belgorod region has increased nearly fourfold since the start of 2025, the report says. In September, more than 4,000 Ukrainian drones were recorded in the Belgorod region, compared with around 1,100 in January 2025. Read the full report here.
Railway tracks damaged due to blast in Assam, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that train services were disrupted for hours between Kokrajhar and Salakati in Assam early this morning after an explosion damaged a section of the railway tracks, officials said on Thursday. The blast that occurred a little after midnight is suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), said the report. It created a small crater on the tracks and halted train movement for several hours. Read the full report here.
UN urges Israel to allow medical evacuation from Gaza amid ceasefire, Al Jazeera

The World Health Organisation said 15,000 Palestinians, desperately in need of medical treatment, are awaiting medical evacuation from Gaza, as the Rafah border crossing remains shut despite the ceasefire deal. Al Jazeera reports that the bodies of 54 unidentified Palestinians – returned to Gaza by Israel with some showing signs of torture and execution – are buried at a mass grave site in central Deir el-Balah. The International Court of Justice has ruled Israel has an obligation as the occupying power to allow basic necessities into war-ravaged Gaza, saying it’s using “starvation as a method of warfare”.
