SC to consider if its ruling on governors applies to Kerala, Hindustan Times

A recent landmark Supreme Court judgment regulating the powers of governors to grant assent on bills will not apply to Kerala because the facts of the two cases are different, the Centre told the top court on Tuesday. Indian Express reports that this comes even as a two-judge bench agreed to examine whether the April 8 verdict had any bearing on the Kerala government’s petition against the governor. Kerala first approached the top court in 2023 against the governor. A bench of justices PS Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi posted the Kerala government’s petition on May 6. Indian Express on Pahalgam terror attack: Pakistan claims ‘nothing to do with it’, Delhi not convinced

A day after the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Express reports that Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif claimed on Wednesday that they have nothing to do with the incident. At least 25 tourists were killed and several others were injured in the attack on Tuesday. Indian officials, however, are not convinced by Pakistan’s denial, the report adds, since the initial probe has suggested the presence of foreigners as part of the group of militants who opened fire at the civilians. Delhi was sceptical about Islamabad’s remarks as The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit, was said to have claimed responsibility for the attack. This follows a formal agreement signed in February 2025 between China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) and Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), marking a historic milestone as Pakistan prepares to become the first foreign country to have astronauts trained and flown by China. The selection process for the Pakistani astronauts is expected to conclude by 2026, the report says. Read the full report here.

IMF slashes global growth forecast over Trump tariffs, The Straits Times

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) sharply lowered its forecasts for world growth for 2025 and 2026, The Straits Times reports, warning the outlook could deteriorate further as US President Donald Trump’s tariffs spark a global trade war. The downgrades add weight to similar warnings from several Wall Street banks in recent weeks, with JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs saying the chances of a recession in the US have spiked. The report says that IMF cut its projection for global output growth in 2025 to 2.8 percent in its updated World Economic Outlook released on Tuesday. Read the full report here.
