NDTV reports, probe agency joins Hyderabad Fertility Clinic case
A massive fertility racket involving a Hyderabad-based facility has seen a significant escalation, NDTV reports, after the Enforcement Directorate intensified investigations into the financial dealings of the clinic, the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre and its founder, Dr A Namratha. Sources told NDTV the central agency questioned the doctor as part of an ongoing inquiry into allegations of money laundering. This was after her arrest by the police. The ED is focused on tracing proceeds of crime generated through the alleged decade-long operation involving fraudulent surrogacy, baby-selling, and cheating of childless couples. Indian Express: Karnataka SIT finds, Rs 80 paid for every fraud voter deletion application in Aland seat

For every fraudulent voter deletion submission made to the Election Commission in the Aland seat ahead of the 2023 Karnataka Assembly polls, a data centre operator was paid Rs 80, as per the Karnataka Police SIT probing the case. Indian Express reports that a total of 6,018 such applications were made between December 2022 and February 2023 in the seat – working out to a total payment of Rs 4.8 lakh. The Aland voter list irregularities were one of the cases brought up by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as part of his “vote chori” allegations, the report adds. Read the full report here.
More than 40 dead after multi-vehicle crash in Uganda, BBC reports
Forty-six people have been killed after several vehicles crashed on a major highway in Uganda, BBC reports. The police revised down an earlier death toll of 63, saying they had mistakenly included victims who were unconscious and were now being treated. The report mentions that the crash occurred when two buses travelling in opposite directions "met head on" while trying to overtake two other vehicles – a lorry and a car – on the Kampala-Gulu Highway at 00:15 local time, the Uganda Police Force said. Govt releases draft amendments to regulate AI or synthetically-generated info: Hindustan Times
Hindustan Times reports that the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has released draft amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, introducing a framework to identify and regulate AI-generated or synthetically-generated information. It has invited public feedback on the amendments by November 6. The report says the definition of “synthetically generated information” is a key proposed change. Read the full report here.
Pakistan navy seizes drugs worth nearly $1bn in the Arabian Sea, Al Jazeera

The Pakistani navy, operating as part of the Saudi-led Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), has seized nearly $1bn worth of narcotics from two vessels sailing through the Arabian Sea, Al Jazeera reports. The CMF, the naval network overseeing the operation, said in a statement on Wednesday that last week, the Pakistani navy intercepted the dhows in two separate operations over 48 hours and seized narcotics worth more than $972m, the report says. The crew boarded the first dhow and seized more than 2 tonnes of “crystal methamphetamine (ICE) with an estimated street value of $822,400,000” on October 18, the CMF said in a statement.
