Supreme Court allows Hindu puja, Muslim prayers at disputed Bhojshala site: Indian Express

After the Madhya Pradesh Government agreed to make arrangements for separate entry and exit for Hindus and Muslims and maintain law and order, Indian Express reports that the Supreme Court Thursday issued directions for simultaneous holding of Basant Panchami puja and namaz at the Archaeological Survey of India-protected Bhojshala Temple/Kamal Maula Mosque complex in the state’s Dhar district Friday. A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi also directed the High Court to supply copies of a scientific survey of the disputed site carried out by ASI to the opposing parties. 10 Army soldiers killed, 9 injured as vehicle falls into gorge in J&K's Doda, Hindustan Times

 

Ten soldiers were killed and 10 others were injured as an Indian Army vehicle fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, Hindustan Times reports. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed the death of 10 jawans and extended condolences to the families of the jawans who lost life in the incident. The accident took place at Khanni top along Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera exclusive: Pro-Palestine activist on hunger strike says he will begin refusing water

A pro-Palestine activist on hunger strike plans to start refusing fluids as well as food, telling Al Jazeera that he hopes his “drastic action” pressures the government into engaging with his protest demands. Umer Khalid, a Palestine Action-linked remand prisoner, stopped eating 13 days ago. He is currently receiving fluids with electrolytes, sugars and salts but said he will stop drinking altogether from Saturday, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Water rises by 20 Feet in Maharashtra's Lonar Lake, NDTV reports

Shocking reports have emerged regarding a steady rise in the water levels of the world-famous Lonar Lake in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, NDTV reports. Taking serious note of the threat posed to the lake's biodiversity due to the rising water, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has ordered a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) be registered. The report says that an increase in the water level has been observed since last September. Continuous inflow from the four main perennial springs around the lake is believed to have raised the water level by approximately 15 to 20 feet. Read the full report here.

 

Two dead and several missing in New Zealand landslides, BBC reports

 

Two people have died and several are feared buried after landslides in New Zealand's North Island. BBC reports that the deaths were reported at Welcome Bay, while rescue workers are still searching through rubble at a different site in a popular campground on Mount Maunganui. There are no "signs of life", authorities said, adding that they have a "rough idea" of how many people are missing but are waiting for an exact figure. They provided no other details except that the group includes "at least one young girl". Read the full report here.
