Indian-origin doctor faces racism at Albania concert, India Today
An Indian-origin doctor, Pranoti Kshirsagar, shared a disturbing experience of racial discrimination she faced while attending a music festival in Albania. India Today reports that in a video, which has now gone viral, Kshirsagar described how a group of girls targeted her with offensive remarks, telling her to "go back to [her] country" during a concert by American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo in Tirana, Albania. Tirana is the capital of Albania, a country in southeastern Europe located on the Balkan Peninsula in the western part of the region. Read the full report here.
Indian Express live updates on Kolkata doctor rape-murder case
The Supreme Court after examining report filed by Kolkata police questioned the timing, sequence of registration of unnatural death case and postmortem, Indian Express reports. The SC has urged doctors, who are on strike, to return back to work and assured that no adverse action will be taken against them. The report says that the apex court resumed hearing matters related to the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday. The Straits Times reports that Vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz led fellow Democrats in a political pep rally on Wednesday night, vowing that he and presidential running mate Kamala Harris would triumph over Republican Donald Trump in November’s US election. The Minnesota governor, who was little known in America 15 days ago, acknowledged he had never given such a big speech but said that as a former high school football coach, “I have given a lot of pep talks.” The 60-year-old accepted his party’s nomination for the No. 2 job. Nagaland police warns personnel against leaking confidential messages
Nagaland police headquarters has issued a notice cautioning police officers and personnel not to circulate confidential operational messages on social media platforms. Hindustan Times reports that this comes in the backdrop of a message containing mobile vehicle check-post (MVCP) security details for different districts, which was in circulation recently in various WhatsApp groups. The notice, issued on Wednesday, pointed out that unauthorised circulation or leaking of sensitive information may alert potential criminal and anti-social elements and defeat the purpose of police actions. Three Palestinians killed in Israeli strike on occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reports
Three Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air attack on a house in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reports as per the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The attack on Thursday came as the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said fighters from its Tulkarem Battalion clashed with Israeli soldiers in the camp and detonated explosive devices targeting military vehicles. The Israeli military deployed snipers on roofs and sent in bulldozers to destroy infrastructure. The Israeli military said its aircraft struck “several militants” in Tulkarem as ground forces searched for buried explosives in an operation that was still ongoing. Read the full report here.
