Govt enforces four labour codes, rules expected in a week
The Union government on Friday announced the enforcement of the four Labour Codes – the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 – with immediate effect. Indian Express reports that this comes more than five years after the Parliament had cleared the labour codes in 2020. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Labour and Employment of India, in a post on social media platform X, said: “From today, the new labour codes have been implemented in the country.” Read the full report here.
Tejas jet crashes during demonstration at Dubai Air Show, pilot dies: Hindustan Times

An Indian Air Force pilot was killed on Friday after the Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1) he was flying crashed at the Dubai airshow on Friday, Hindustan Times reports as per the IAF. Visuals circulating on social media showed the indigenous fighter jet hitting the ground and erupting into a fireball, the report says. "IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the IAF said in a statement. Read the full report here.
S’pore imposes sanctions, entry bans on 4 Israelis for violence against Palestinians in West Bank: The Straits Times
Singapore will impose financial sanctions and bar the entry of four Israeli individuals immediately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Friday. The Straits Times reports that the four individuals are Meir Mordechai Ettinger, Elisha Yered, Ben-Zion Gopstein and Baruch Marzel, whom MFA said have been involved in “egregious acts of extremist violence” against Palestinians in the West Bank. “Such actions are unlawful and undermine and jeopardise prospects for a two-state solution,” said the ministry as per the rpeort. Nitish Kumar gives up Home after 2 decades, India Today
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday gave up the Home Ministry with his deputy, BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, now given charge of the key department, India Today reports, as portfolios for the new cabinet were announced. This is the first time in two decades that Nitish Kumar will not be holding the Home department in the state. Ahead of Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony, India Today had reported that talks over cabinet formation among NDA allies had hit a temporary roadblock, with JD(U) reluctant to relinquish the powerful Home portfolio. At least 41 dead as relentless rains flood Vietnam, BBC reports

Relentless rains and floods have killed at least 41 people in central Vietnam since the weekend, while a search continues for nine still missing, BBC reports as per the state media. The deluge has submerged more than 52,000 homes and left half a million households and businesses without power, according to reports. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated from the flood-affected regions. The report says that rainfall has exceeded 1.5m (5ft) in several areas over the past three days, even rising beyond the 1993 flood peak of 5.2m in some parts. Read the full report here.
