Hindustan Times on Nagpur violence shocker
An on-duty female police officer was allegedly molested by a man during Maharashtra’s Nagpur violence, a First Information Report registered in this regard stated on Wednesday. A report by the Hindustan Times says that the Nagpur violence accused, as per the FIR, also made obscene gestures and misbehaved with some other women, including police personnel, during the incident, which reportedly began around 4pm on March 17 and continued until approximately 11.30pm. The FIR was registered two days after violence broke out in several parts of Nagpur amid a row over the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Aurangabad. Read the full report here.
Indian Express live updates on NASA Sunita Williams SpaceX Crew-9 return
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have returned to Earth safely after their Crew 9 Dragon Spacecraft splashdown safely off the coast of Florida. Due to the intense loss of body mass and muscle density during their stay in space, both Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore will have to undergo 45 days of rehabilitation to adjust to life on Earth. During their rehabilitation period, the health condition of the NASA astronauts will be closely tracked to make sure there is no vision impairment, muscle loss, balance issue, and bone density loss. DR Congo and Rwanda call for ceasefire in Qatar talks, BBC reports
The Democratic Republic of Congo's President Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame have called for an "immediate ceasefire" in eastern DR Congo, BBC reports, after having direct talks in Qatar. It is the first time two leaders have met since Rwanda-backed M23 rebels stepped up an offensive in the region, where authorities say 7,000 people have been killed since January. It is unclear whether the M23 would heed the ceasefire call, after the rebels refused to attend peace talks in Angola on Tuesday, the report says. Read the full report here.
Karnataka MLA urges free liquor for men, India Today
India Today reports that a proposal by JD(S) legislator MT Krishnappa in the Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday stirred a controversy and a heated debate on the floor on the state government’s financial policies. During the session, Krishnappa suggested that the Congress-led government should distribute two free liquor bottles per week to men, given its ongoing welfare initiative of giving Rs 2,000 for women. “At their cost, you’re giving Rs 2,000 per month to women, free electricity, and free bus travel. That’s our money anyway. So, for those who drink, give them two bottles of liquor free every week," the Janata Dal (Secular) legislator said, as per the report. Read the full report here.
Israel strikes continue in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports
At least 14 Palestinians have been killed in overnight Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reports. Taher al-Nono, a Hamas official, said the group has not shut the door on negotiations despite the renewed Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip but insists there is no need for new agreements when a signed one exists. At least 24 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air attacks across the Gaza Strip overnight and this morning, according to Al Jazeera’s team on the ground. Read the full report here.
