Vistara flight carrying 147 people makes emergency landing in Mumbai after bomb threat, Financial Express
Following a bomb threat, a Mumbai-bound Vistara flight coming in from Frankfurt, Germany, made an emergency landing in the city today, Financial Express reports. The flight was carrying 147 people and landed safely at 7:45 am. The report said that it was later taken to the isolation bay for mandatory security checks. Sources said that the Boeing 787 aircraft was carrying 134 passengers and 13 crew members. This brings the total to at least 20 bomb threats received by Indian carriers in the past week. Indian Express on a major confirmation by US on plot to kill Pannun
The United States on Wednesday (US time) confirmed that the individual, a former RAW officer identified as ‘CC1’ in the Department of Justice (DOJ) indictment, who was allegedly involved in the failed plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, is “no longer an employee of the Indian government.” Indian Express reports that Matthew Miller, Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, said in a press briefing that the high-level Indian inquiry committee had a “productive meeting” with US government officials on Tuesday, during which both sides shared updates on their respective investigations into the case. The US had announced the visit of the high-level Indian inquiry committee on Monday amid a diplomatic blowback between New Delhi and Ottawa over Canada’s suggestion of Indian diplomats’ involvement in the Hardeep Singh Nijjar assassination case, the report adds. BBC report: Migrant deportations to increase, says EU chief
BBC reports that EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said the bloc could "draw lessons" from the contested Italian policy of processing migrants offshore in Albania ahead of an EU summit focusing on migration. She made the remarks in a letter to member states ahead of the meeting in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, the report says, where she said the European Commission would present a new proposal for legislation to increase deportations of migrants. Von der Leyen - who is just starting a second five-year term as European Commission chief - appears to be responding to pressure on migration from across Europe. Read the full report here.
Nayab Singh Saini sworn in as Haryana CM for 2nd time, Hindustan Times reports
Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in on Thursday as Haryana's chief minister in a grand ceremony in Panchkula, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and other key BJP leaders, Hindustan Times reports. Saini, a prominent OBC leader, assumed the role for the second time, having replaced Manohar Lal Khattar earlier this year. The report says the event coincided with Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, and Saini, prior to the swearing-in, offered prayers at Valmiki Temple in Panchkula. Read the full report here.
Iran warns Israel against retaliation for Oct 1 missile attack, the Straits Times
The commander of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards warned Israel against attacking the Islamic Republic in retaliation for a missile barrage, The Straits Times reports, as its arch-foe stepped up its offensive in Lebanon against Tehran-backed Hezbollah. Fears of wider conflict have increased as Israel plans its response to the October 1 missile attack carried out by Iran after Israeli air strikes on Iranian-allied militants. Israel shows no signs of easing its military campaigns against Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza despite repeated calls for ceasefires and it has vowed to punish Iran for its October 1 attack, the report adds.
