Karnataka CM decision in next 24 hours, Business Today reports

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday said the decision on Karnataka Chief Minister was yet to be taken and the state will have a new cabinet in the next 48-72 hours. Business Today reported this as reports emerged saying Siddarmaiah was likely to be the next chief minister. Surjewala said deliberations were currently underway by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.The supporters of Siddarmaiah and DK Shivakumar have landed in Delhi and lobbying for the top post for their leaders, the report adds. Biden and Republicans hopeful of a deal to raise US debt ceiling, BBC

 

US President Joe Biden and Republican leaders have expressed cautious optimism that a deal to raise the US debt ceiling is within reach, BBC reports. This followed emergency talks at the White House. But House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy told reporters the two sides are still far apart. The standoff has forced Biden to cut short a foreign trip, the report adds. Without a deal, the US could enter a calamitous default on its $31.4tr debt as soon as 1 June. Read the full report here.

 

Severe turbulence on Delhi-Sydney Air India flight, The Hindu

The Hindu reports that seven passengers on board the Delhi-Sydney Air India flight were injured after the flight encountered severe turbulence mid-air on May 17. The injured passengers received medical assistance on arrival at Sydney airport, no passenger was hospitalised. According to a senior DGCA official quoted by The Hindu, the passengers suffered a “minor sprain”. Air India B787-800 aircraft VT-ANY operating flight AI-302 from Delhi-Sydney encountered severe turbulence. Read the full report here.

 

Meta India Executive Manish Chopra quits: NDTV

Meta's director and head of partnerships in India Manish Chopra has quit the company. NDTV reports that he joined the social media giant in January 2019. Manish Chopra took to LinkedIn to announce his departure. However, he will help in the transition over the next few weeks. Last ship leaves Ukraine as  Black Sea grain deal hangs in the balance: Al Jazeera update

 

The last ship has left a port in Ukraine under a deal allowing the safe Black Sea export of Ukrainian grain, Al Jazeera reports, a day before Russia could quit the pact over obstacles to its grain and fertiliser exports. The DSM Capella has left the port of Chornomorsk carrying 30,000 tonnes of corn and was on its way to Turkiye. The report adds that Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said Moscow would consider extending the deal beyond Thursday if some “systemic problems” concerning Russia’s own agricultural exports were resolved. The United Nations and Turkey brokered the Black Sea deal for an initial 120 days in July last year to help tackle a global food crisis that has been aggravated by Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
