Annamalai, other Tamil Nadu BJP leaders arrested ahead of protest, Indian Express
Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai was arrested by Chennai police on Monday morning, Indian Express reports, hours before he was set to lead a demonstration against alleged financial irregularities in the state-run liquor retailer, Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). Annamalai, who had planned to hold a protest outside the TASMAC headquarters Chennai’s Egmore, was detained near his residence in Akkarai as he attempted to leave for the venue. The report says that the protest was organised in the wake of a sweeping probe by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), which has uncovered what it describes as a sprawling corruption network within TASMAC. High Court clears Gautam Adani, brother in Rs 388 crore market violation case: India Today
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Managing Director Rajesh Adani have been discharged by the Bombay High Court in a case related to alleged market regulation violations worth nearly Rs 388 crore, India Today reports. The court's decision brings an end to a long-standing legal battle that began in 2012. The case dates back to 2012 when the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) filed a chargesheet against Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) and its promoters, accusing them of criminal conspiracy and cheating. The investigation was linked to alleged violations of market rules and financial irregularities. The legal battle has been ongoing for more than a decade. South Korea’s ruling party says it will respect Yoon impeachment verdict: The Straits Times
The Straits Times reports that South Korea appears to be on edge with politicians urged to respect the upcoming ruling on suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment from the Constitutional Court amid intensifying protests over the weekend. The court is likely to hand down its verdict this week, the report says. The ruling People Power Party floor leader Kweon Seong-dong on March 16 said that the party would accept the Constitutional Court’s final verdict to determine the fate of Mr Yoon, regardless of whether the outcome is favourable to the ruling party or not. Hindustan Times on PM Modi: India, New Zealand back free, open and secure Indo-Pacific
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, delivering a joint address with his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon on Monday, said that both nations back a “free, open and secure Indo-Pacific” and believe in the policy of development over expansionism, Hindustan Times reports. In their meeting at New Delhi's Hyderabad House, the two prime ministers signed a defence cooperation pact between India and New Zealand. The report says that PM Modi appreciated Luxon for his long-time association with India and also took note of the New Zealand leader's recent Holi celebration in Auckland. Read the full report here.
Fresh US strikes in Yemen with 53 now dead, BBC reports
Yemen's Houthi rebels say there have been fresh US strikes against them, with the number of dead rising to 53, including five children. BBC reports that targets in the Al Jaouf and Hudaydah areas were hit early on Monday, according to the rebel group, while the US Central Command said its forces had continued operations. The US launched what it called a "decisive and powerful" wave of air strikes on Houthi targets on Saturday as part of efforts to stop Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. The report adds that Washington says some key Houthi figures are among the dead, but the group has not confirmed this. Read the full report here.
