Suspect in apparent Trump assassination attempt was pro-Ukraine activist, BBC reports
The suspect in Sunday's apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump was a pro-Ukraine activist, BBC reports. US media, including the BBC's US parter CBS, have named the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58. He tried to recruit foreign fighters to join Ukraine's war effort and had been to Kyiv, the report says. The incident unfolded as Trump played golf at his course in Florida on Sunday. Secret Service agents shot at the suspect when they saw an AK-47-style gun poking through bushes on the edge of the course. Read the full report here.
Hindustan Times: Adani wins bid to supply 6,600 MW of electricity to Maharashtra
Adani group has won a bid to supply 6,600 MW of bundled renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) at a rate of ₹4.08 per unit. Hindustan Times reports that Adani group has won this bid, which is nearly ₹1 lower than the current procurement cost of electricity in the state, by beating companies like JSW Energy and Torrent Power. MSEDCL in March, floated a unique tender for sourcing 5,000 MW of electricity generated from sunlight and 1,600 MW of power generated from coal, the report mentions. Read the full report here.
Al Jazeera on at least one killed, 42 injured as Russian bomb hits Kharkiv apartments
At least one woman has been killed and 42 people injured, Al Jazeera reoprts, after a Russian-guided bomb struck a multistorey apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. Prosecutors in the northeastern city said on Sunday that the body of a 94-year-old woman had been recovered from the ninth floor of the building, which caught fire after it was hit by the bomb. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 42 people, including three children, were injured when the bomb hit the 10th floor of the building. The fire spread across at least four floors and 12 other buildings were also damaged, the report adds. Read the full report here.
Manish Sisodia to meet Arvind Kejriwal today amid next Delhi Chief Minister buzz, India Today
AAP leader Manish Sisodia will visit Arvind Kejriwal's residence today during which discussions on the name of the next Delhi Chief Minister may happen, India Today reports. This will be the first meeting between the two leaders following Kejriwal's announcement on Sunday that he will resign from the chief ministerial post. Arvind Kejriwal, who was released from the Tihar Jail on Friday after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the liquor policy case, announced his decision in his first address to AAP leaders and workers, the report adds. Typhoon Bebinca lands in Shanghai: The Straits Times
The Straits Times reports that Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai on Monday morning as a Category 1 storm, the most powerful tropical cyclone to directly hit the Chinese financial hub in more than seven decades. Packing top wind speeds of 151kmh near its eye, the typhoon landed in the city of nearly 25 million around 7.30am, state media reported, the strongest storm to strike Shanghai since Typhoon Gloria in 1949. Shanghai rarely receives direct hits from strong typhoons, which generally make landfall farther south in China. Read the full report here.
