Owner of Gujarat's largest daily arrested by ED in money laundering case, India Today reports
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested Bahubali Shah, the co-owner of Gujarat's largest daily Gujarat Samachar, India Today reports, in connection with a money laundering case. Shah, who is associated with more than 15 business entities, was taken into custody following raids at multiple locations linked to him. The report says that Shah is one of the directors of Lok Prakashan Limited, which publishes the Gujarat Samachar newspaper and GSTV channel. His elder brother, Shreyansh Shah, is the managing editor of the newspaper. Read the full report here.
Centre draws up all-party delegations to spread Op Sindoor message: Indian Express
To take India’s message after Operation Sindoor to the world, Indian Express reports that the government is planning to send all-party parliamentary delegations to several countries in the coming days. Sources, as per the report, said the government has reached out to several opposition MPs, inviting them to be part of teams that will be dispatched to world capitals. The government is thinking of sending special envoys to foreign countries to make a case about how India is united and suffered the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Read the full report here.
Peru arrests suspect in gold rush massacre, Al Jazeera
Al Jazeera reports that police have arrested the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder in early May of 13 gold miners in Peru. Miguel Antonio Rodriguez Diaz, also known by the alias “Cuchillo” (Knife), was detained in the Colombian city of Medellin on Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior in Lima said. The murders in early May put the spotlight on increasing violence provoked by a gold rush in Peru’s northern Pataz district. The report says burned bodies of 13 missing gold miners were recovered after being reported as kidnapped by illegal miners allied with criminal armed groups. Read the full report here.
Hindustan Times: Assam govt notifies policy against human trafficking, witch-hunting
The Assam government on Friday notified a state policy aimed at combating human trafficking and witch-hunting to ensure that all people can live a life of equal worth, free from all forms of abuse, Hindustan Times reports. The notification, issued by an order of the governor on May 6, stated that the policy will come into effect from the date of its publication in the official gazette, the report says. According to the policy, the vision is to create a state where all individuals are able to attain their full potential by living a life of equal worth, free from all kinds of abuse and participate equally in private and public life. Pakistan says ceasefire with India to be extended to May 18 as truce holds, The Straits Times
The ceasefire between Pakistan and India will be extended to May 18, a top official in Islamabad said, indicating the respite in fighting is holding after clashes in May brought the two nuclear-armed nations close to a full-blown war. The Straits Times reports that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar added in a speech to Parliament on May 15 that his country would not violate the truce, which will “ultimately go to a dialogue, and it will be a composite dialogue”. The two nations, which have clashed on many occasions over the disputed territory of Kashmir, conducted tit-for-tat military strikes for several days from May 7, accusing each other of escalating the conflict.
