BBC on PM Modi's women quota bill speech in parliament
Hindustan Times reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the lower house of the Parliament on Wednesday to address the debate in the women reservation bill. He said that there is “no need to give the bill a political colour” and that this bill is an opportunity to add a new chapter to ‘Viksit Bharat’. Earlier, the report says that Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi questioned Centre's intention of increasing the women's reservation in Lok Sabha by linking it with delimitation. Read the full report here.
Telangana caste survey shows SCs, STs three times more backward than general categories

Telangana’s caste and socio-economic survey has found extraordinary inequalities and backwardness across communities in the state, Indian Express reports. Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that SCs and STs were found to be three times more backward than General Castes, based on Composite Backwardness Index scores. Backward Classes are 2.7 times more backward than the General Castes, the report adds. Read the full report here.
BBC: Israel-Lebanon talks will happen today, Israeli minister says
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will speak to the Lebanese President Joseph Aoun today, an Israeli minister said. BBC reports that Lebanon earlier cast doubt on US President Donald Trump's claim that the leaders were due to hold talks. Meanwhile, in southern Lebanon, Israel issued a new warning to residents as its air strikes continue, while Hezbollah said it has fired rockets at Israel. Read the full report here.
Assam's opposition leader alleges security lapses in post-poll strongrooms, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that Assam's Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has raised serious concerns over alleged lapses in the security of strongrooms storing post-poll election materials, prompting him to write to Assam's Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel. Notably, the report says that Assam recorded high voter turnout of 85.96 percent of 2.51 crore voters in the single-phase polling held on April 9.
