Flights resume over border areas as 32 airports reopen days after ceasefire, NDTV
Flight operations across 32 airports in North and West India are expected to return to normal, NDTV reports, as cross-border military action between India and Pakistan came to a halt over the past few days. Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is slated to visit Srinagar and Jammu airports, among the first to be shut after Operation Sindoor was conducted to strike nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on May 7. Flight-tracking portal FlightRadar 24, as of 12.30 pm, showed a handful of flights over Jammu, Amritsar and parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat, the report says. Read the full report here.
President Murmu asks Supreme Court on assent to Bills, Indian Express
With the Supreme Court setting timelines for the President and Governors to act on Bills sent by state assemblies, President Droupadi Murmu has sought the top court’s opinion under Article 143(1) on whether their actions are justiciable and whether such timelines can be imposed on them in the absence of any such provision in the Constitution. Indian Express reports that in April this year, the Supreme Court set a timeline for Governors to act on Bills, and for the first time, prescribed that the President should take a decision on the Bills reserved for consideration by the Governor within three months from the date on which such reference is received. Under Article 201 of the Constitution, no timeframe has been set for a presidential decision, the report says. Read the full report here.
At least 21 killed in crash in Mexico, BBC reports
BBC reports that at least 21 people have been killed in a road accident in central Mexico. The three-vehicle crash happened on the highway between Cuacnopalan and Oaxaca in Puebla state on Wednesday morning, said Samuel Aguilar Pala, a local government official. Pala said 18 people died at the scene and another three died later in hospital. The report adds that he wrote on X, several others were injured and are receiving medical attention. Hindustan Times: SC directs Centre to set up special POCSO court on priority basis
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Centre to set up on "top priority basis" dedicated POCSO courts to exclusively deal with cases of sexual offences against children, Hindustan Times reports. A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and P B Varale said due to the inadequacy of the number of exclusive courts for the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act cases, the timelines mandated under the law for completion of trials weren't adhered to. The top court further directed filing of chargesheets within the mandatory period stipulated in law besides completing trials within the prescribed time frame, the report says. Trump tells Apple CEO to stay out of India, liveMint reports
US President Donald Trump has asked Apple CEO Tim Cook not to manufacture in India even though New Delhi has offered the United States a “no-tariff deal”, liveMint reports. The development is significant as it comes amid the ongoing tensions between India and the US over Trump's claim that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Trump referred to an earlier talk with Tim Cook after the US-China tariff talk in Geneva, when he praised Apple’s decision to expand manufacturing within the United States, the report says.
