The Congress and the Samajwadi Party have taken differing positions on the prospect of an alliance with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, NDTV reports, exposing contrasting approaches within the opposition INDIA bloc as it seeks to regroup after a series of electoral setbacks. Congress MP Imran Masood on Sunday said any decision on AIMIM joining the INDIA bloc would be taken by the party's central leadership, but stressed there could be "no compromise with communalism". Iran and US agree deal to end war, BBC reports

The US and Iran have agreed a deal to end the war, which mediator Pakistan says will be signed on Friday in Switzerland, BBC reports. US President Donald Trump says the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and the US naval blockade of Iran will end. Oil prices have fallen since the announcement, the report says. Pakistan says the agreement includes an end to "military operations" in Lebanon, the report adds. However, Israel says its forces will remain in the country. Read the full report here.
Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman's aide returns from Delhi's IGI Airport after entry row, India Today
India briefly stopped the entry of Bangladesh Prime Minister's Adviser on Policy and Strategy, Zahed Ur Rahman, at New Delhi's IGI Airport before clearing his entry into the country, India Today reports. However, the aide to Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman chose to return to Dhaka via Colombo, according to reports by Bangladeshi media outlets. This is the first such incident concerning an official related to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government, which came to power just months ago, the report says. Read the full report here.
6.6-magnitude quake strikes southern Philippines: The Straits Times
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Monday, the Philippine state seismology agency Phivolcs said. The Straits Times reports that the quake that struck 164km south-east of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental province had a depth of 86km, and no damage is expected. Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol told DZMM radio that the quake on June 15 originated along the Philippine Trench and is not connnected to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8, with its epicentre more than 250km away. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday called on students and young job aspirants to join the "Students' Echo" (Chhatron Ki Goonj) protest in Rajasthan's Kota on June 17, Hindustan Times reports. The Opposition leader accused the government of failing India's youth through repeated exam paper leaks, cancelled tests and delayed recruitment processes.
