Rahul Gandhi attacks Modi for calling Adani issue ‘personal matter’ in US: Indian Express

Accusing him of covering up the businessman’s “corruption”, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his reply to a question related to Gautam Adani in the United States. Indian Express reports that Gandhi attacked PM Modi for “maintaining silence” over the Adani issue while in the country, and terming it a “personal matter” on foreign soil. During a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump, PM Modi was asked if the ‘Gautam Adani case’ was discussed during the meeting of the two world leaders, the report says. NDTV on 'inside PM Modi-Trump meet'

 

NDTV reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US President Donald Trump at the White House for high-stakes discussions spanning defence, trade, technology and energy, NDTV reports. The meeting, which follows PM Modi's pit stop in France, came just hours after President Trump announced a new reciprocal tariff policy targeting all US trading partners, including India, the report says. Modi and Trump's meeting announced the COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology for the 21st Century), an initiative aimed at transforming bilateral cooperation across defence, investment, trade, energy, innovation, and multilateral partnerships. Israel warns of war as Hamas confirms 3 Gaza captives to be freed, Al Jazeera

Hamas said it will release three captives from Gaza on Saturday as scheduled following talks with ceasefire mediators Egypt and Qatar, Al Jazeera reports. Israel has said Hamas must release three living captives or Israeli forces will return to war in the Palestinian territory. As per the report, Hamas spokesperson Abdul Latif al-Qanou said the language of threats made against Gaza by United States President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not serve the Gaza ceasefire’s implementation. Jamia Masjid in Srinagar closed on Shab-e-Baraat, Hindustan Times

The Jammu and Kashmir Police restricted congregational prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid on the night of Shab-e-Baraat, Hindustan Times reports, one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Kashmir's chief cleric, who was scheduled to deliver the sermon, was placed under house arrest. People gathered at the mosque in Srinagar's Nowhatta, also known as Downtown, were asked to leave, the report adds, and the mosque management was informed that there would be no night prayers. The decision faced sharp criticism from political leaders, with chief minister Omar Abdullah calling it “unfortunate”. Read the full report here.

 

TeleSUR on rising death toll from floods and landslides in Bolivia

 

The Bolivian government has reported a alarming increase in the number of victims due to intense rains that have battered the country since November 2024, TeleSUR reports. According to Deputy Minister of Civil Defense Juan Carlos Calvimontes, the death toll has risen from 23 to 27, with one person missing, amid a crisis that has affected eight regions of the country. Currently, 29,404 families have been directly affected, and another 86,803 have been indirectly impacted by the severe weather, the report adds. Read the full report here.
