The Straits Times: Strikes and snow turn London’s office districts into ghost towns

Train strikes and freezing weather have left London’s business districts deserted this week, the Straits Times reports. Office occupancy plunged to 19 percent in the British capital on Monday, sharply down from 33 percent a week earlier, data shows. The report adds that while rail strikes officially started on Tuesday morning, many trains out of the City were delayed or cancelled the previous evening following a bout of snowfall. Rail workers are striking across the UK on Dec 13, 14, 16 and 17 this week, with more walkouts planned over Christmas and into the new year. Read the full report here.

 

Wholesale price rise dropped to 5.85 pc in November, The Hindu

 

The Hindu reported that India’s wholesale price inflation fell sharply to 5.85 percent in November from 8.4 percent in October. This was owed to a broad-based dip in price rise led by food items whose inflation slipped from 6.5 percent in October to just 2.2 percent. The report further says fuel and power inflation dropped to 17.35 percent in November, nearly half the 33.1 percent recorded in September and lower than October’s 23.2 percent level. TeleSUR reports protests in Peru demanding closure of the Congress

Mobilisations in Peru continue this Tuesday in several localities to reiterate the demand for the closure of Congress, the release of former president Pedro Castillo. The TeleSUR reports that protesters have been demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the holding of new elections. According to community media, protests have taken place in Plaza San Martin, downtown Lima (capital), Lambayeque, Cusco, Ica, Tacna and other regions. The report says the Ombudsman's Office rectified the number of deaths after the National Police repression of the demonstrations and indicated that a total of six deaths had been confirmed so far. 17-year-old girl attacked with acid by two bike-borne men, Indian Express

The Indian Express reports that a 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked with acid by two bike-borne men in Delhi’s Dwarka district area on Wednesday. The victim who was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment is said to be stable. One person has been detained, as per the report. “The victim sustained 8 percent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan. NDTV report: 2021 video shows Indian soldiers repelling China troops

 

A day after the government confirmed a clash on December 9 between Indian and Chinese soldiers at the border in Arunachal Pradesh, NDTV reported that a video of a previous skirmish emerged. The video, from last year, shows a fierce fight in the same area of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. The Army, the report adds, has firmly denied that the video is related to the December 9 incident. What is shown in the clip is believed to have taken place in the Yangtse sector near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), sometime after the clashes at Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh in June 2020.
