Indian woman dies trying to escape Nepal hotel set on fire by protesters, Hindustan Times

Hindustan Times reports that a religious trip to Nepal turned into a tragedy for a Ghaziabad family after rioters torched a luxury hotel in Kathmandu, leaving a woman dead while dozens of Indian tourists are still stranded. Ramveer Singh Gola (58) and his wife Rajesh Gola had travelled to Kathmandu on September 7 to visit the Pashupatinath temple. But the report says that on the night of September 9, their five-star hotel was set ablaze during violent protests. According to relatives, Ramveer Gola and his wife Rajesh Gola were staying in the upper floor of a hotel when protesters set the lower floors on fire. Read the full report here.

 

Indian Express: Delhi High Court gets bomb threat via email

 

The Delhi High Court received a bomb threat email on Friday, forcing a majority of judges to rise at around 11.40 am abruptly. Indian Express reports that the official email IDs of the registrar general and other officials of the Delhi High Court purportedly received an email at 10.41 am threatening a bomb blast in the “judge chambers” without specifying any names. By 12.20 pm, Delhi HC Bar Association President N Hariharan, court staff, and security personnel started evacuating for “searching the premises”, sources told The Indian Express. Bolsonaro sentenced to 27 years in prison for plotting Brazil coup, BBC reports

The former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison after being found guilty of plotting a military coup, BBC reports. A panel of five Supreme Court justices handed down the sentence just hours after they had convicted the former leader. The report says that they ruled he was guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. IIT Kharagpur revokes notice on separate seating at dining halls for veg, non-veg students, NDTV

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has withdrawn a notice for segregation in seating at hostel dining halls based on vegetarian and non-vegetarian food habits and choices, NDTV reports. Hinting that the notice about the segregation of such seating arrangements at B R Ambedkar Hall had been issued without the knowledge of higher authorities, the institute director, Suman Chakraborty, told PTI on Friday, "The moment he came to know about the decision, it was scrapped following immediate consultation with others in the higher authority of the institute." As per the report, Chakraborty further said an academic institution should not impose such an order of segregation based on the food preferences of an individual. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera live report: Israel kills dozens in Gaza, UNSC condemns Doha attack

 

Members of the United Nations Security Council have roundly condemned Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar’s capital, Doha. In the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera's medical sources say Israeli attacks have killed at least 25 people so far today, 14 from the same family. Hamas has pledged to keep fighting in the wake of the Israeli attack on Doha, the report adds, saying its key demands – including the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and reconstruction of the territory – have not wavered.
