NDTV on Congress' Meenakshi Natarajan after top court rejects her plea

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Congress' Meenakshi Natarajan's plea, challenging the rejection of her Rajya Sabha nomination papers, NDTV reports. Once nomination of a candidate is rejected by the returning officer, the top court said, the only remedy is to approach the Election Commission. The nomination papers of Natarajan was rejected by the Returning Officer on the ground that she allegedly failed to disclose a pending criminal case against her. Read the full report here.

 

A year after crash killed 260, we still don't know why the AI171's engines stopped: The Wire

 

A year after one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent memory, the families of those killed in the Air India Ahmedabad crash are no closer to knowing what brought the Boeing 787 Dreamliner down, mere seconds after taking off, The Wire reports. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to release its report AI-171 flight crash on Friday (June 12), an official source told Hindustan Times. However, the document will not resolve the cause of the tragedy as the plane’s engines’ examination is still underway. It adds that a Reuters’ report, published on Thursday (June 11), says investigators were expected to delay issuing a final report, citing a pending analysis of the plane’s G.E. Tehran says 'nothing' finalised after Trump claims deal to end Iran war near, BBC reports

Iran has insisted that a final decision on an agreement to end the current conflict with the US has not yet been reached, BBC reports, despite US President Donald Trump again claiming a deal was likely to be signed imminently. Trump had declared the US would strike Iran "very hard" again on Thursday, but later said he was cancelling the strikes because negotiators had "just made a great settlement" with Iran, the report says. He told reporters it was "subject to finalisation of documents, which should get done, over the next few days" and that there would "probably" be a signing ceremony in Europe. Hindustan Times: CRPF, CISF personnel to transport NEET-UG re-examination question papers

Hindustan Times reports that the education ministry has roped in personnel from two central armed police forces Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), to transport the question papers for the June 21 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) re-examination. The CAPF armed personnel will be assisted by state police forces at each centre when transporting the papers from airports to the banks and then to the exam centres. The NEET UG re-test is being conducted after the original May 3 examination was cancelled following confirmation that the question paper had been compromised, the report mentions. South Korea’s ex-president gets 30 years’ jail over North Korea drone incident: The Straits Times

 

A South Korean court sentenced former president Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison on June 12 for sending drones into North Korea to “manufacture” a crisis ahead of his disastrous martial law bid, The Straits Times reports. The military drone flights two months before Yoon suspended civilian rule in 2024 had sparked anger in Pyongyang, which accused the South of also dropping propaganda leaflets. The report says that Yoon is already in detention while he appeals a separate life sentence for leading an insurrection with his martial law declaration. Read the full report here.
