High Court protects Aishwarya Rai's personality rights, India Today

The Delhi High Court has granted Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan protection over her personality rights, ruling that unauthorised commercial use of her name, image, voice or other attributes would violate her right to live with dignity, India Today reports. Justice Tejas Karia restrained several entities from misusing the actor’s personal attributes, including her likeness and identity markers, for commercial gain without her consent. Indian Express: Sanjay Singh tries scaling gate to meet Farooq Abdullah

 

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday prevented Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh and MLA Imran Hussain from addressing the press in Srinagar and barred them from coming out of the government guesthouse where they were staying, Indian Express reports. Police also prevented National Conference president and Srinagar MP Farooq Abdullah from meeting Singh at the guesthouse, prompting Singh to try scaling the gate. Read the full report here.

 

Manhunt intensifies for suspect who killed Charlie Kirk, BBC reports

Heavily armed policed are continuing to search for a suspect in the fatal shooting of influential conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a busy event at Utah Valley University, BBC reports. Authorities say the suspect fired a single shot from a nearby rooftop, hitting Kirk in the neck as he was speaking at the outdoor student event. The 31-year-old founded Turning Point USA, a group that seeks to spread conservative ideas on American campuses, when he was still a teenager, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Supreme Court orders SIT with Hindu and Muslim officers to probe 2023 Maharashtra clashes, NDTV

NDTV reports that the Supreme Court, while observing that a person after putting on the police uniform must rise above all kinds of biases, today asked for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) with both Hindu and Muslim officers to probe the May 2023 riots in Maharashtra's Akola. One person had died and eight others, including two policemen, were injured, in the violent clash in May 2023 over a social media post in Akola. While passing this unprecedented order today, the top court pulled up the Maharashtra Police over a "biased" probe into the communal riots, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Bali floods kill 14, search continues for 2 missing: The Straits Times

 

The death toll from this week’s floods on the Indonesian island of Bali has risen to 14 people from nine, a government official said, though the rain has stopped and water levels are receding in most areas. The Straits Times reports that two people are missing in the tourist hub's capital of Denpasar and 125 rescuers have deployed in the search for them. He added that more than 500 people have been evacuated to schools and mosques. Torrential rains on September 9 and 10 caused floods in Denpasar and six of Bali's eight regions, blocking major roads, including access to the island's international airport.
