Hindenburg questions Madhabi Puri Buch's silence on Congress' allegations

US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research has questioned Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch’s silence on new allegations about her consulting firm's financial dealings during her tenure as a regulator, India Today reports. Hindenburg's statement comes after the Congress party raised fresh allegations about Buch's links to listed companies regulated by Sebi. The short-seller also said that Madhabi Puri Buch has remained silent on the accusations for weeks. A day ago, the Congress party claimed that Buch and her consulting firm Agora Private Limited received nearly Rs 2.95 crore between 2016 and 2024 from six companies, including Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Dr. Reddy’s and Pidilite. Harris puts Trump on defensive in fiery debate, BBC reports

 

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump met in a fiery debate on Tuesday - their first of the 2024 US presidential election, BBC reports. They debated policy but personal attacks also dominated the 90 minute event. Harris said people leave Trump rallies early "out of exhaustion and boredom", he said people don't go to hers in the first place. Trump criticised Harris's record on immigration and the border, the report adds, and also her shifting policy positions. Harris blamed him for "Trump abortion bans" and the 6 January attacks on the US Capitol. Read the full report here.

NDTV: Waiter asked for food bill, customers dragged him for 1 Km by car

A Maharashtra waiter's attempt to ask customers to pay their food bill turned into a nightmare after he was dragged for over a kilometre by their car. NDTV reports that CCTV footage shows the waiter trying to stop the customers from leaving by opening their car door but they keep driving, dragging him along, police said. According to reports, three men came to eat at a roadside hotel on Mehkar-Pandharpur Palkhi highway in Maharashtra' Beed district on Saturday. The report says that they parked outside the hotel and ate their meal. After they finished their food, the three men returned to their car and asked the waiter to bring them the UPI QR code scanner so they could pay for it. Read the full report here.

 

Israeli attacks kill 27 Palestinians overnight amid outcry, Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera reports that Israeli forces have killed 27 more Palestinians across Gaza, including 13 in an attack on a building in Khan Younis. This comes as world leaders condemn the bombing of al-Mawasi “safe zone” in the south. Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency has found that Israel used the US-made 907kg MK-84 bombs in al-Mawasi, killing at least 19 people and wounding 60 others. At least 41,020 people have been killed and 94,925 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. Read the full report here.

 

5.8-magnitude earthquake rocks Pakistan, Hindustan Times reports

 

Earthquake tremors were felt across north India, Pakistan and Afghanistan on Wednesday afternoon, Hindustan Times reports. Netizens claimed that they felt tremors in Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan and New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir in India.  The quake was at a depth of 10 kilometres. This is the second occurrence of mild tremors in Delhi and its surrounding areas within two weeks, the report adds. Read the full report here.
