Hindustan Times: Uddhav Thackeray claims his bags checked before rally

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday alleged that government officials checked his bags when he arrived in Yavatmal district for campaigning, Hindustan Times reports. Addressing a rally at Wani for party candidate Sanjay Derkar, Thackeray talked about this incident. He asked whether the election authorities would inspect Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders' bags the same way. The former chief minister claimed that upon his arrival in Wani by a helicopter, several government authorities checked his bag, the report says. It adds that Thackeray then asked Sena UBT workers and the voters to inspect and identity cards and pockets of the officials who check them. Read the full report here

 

Army pauses gunfire so trekkers can be rescued, Indian Express

 

A day after security forces launched an anti-terror operation in the Zabarwan forests surrounding Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir police have advised trekkers in the area to inform the local police before heading for treks in or along the forest. Indian Express reports that just after the operation was launched on Sunday, two trekkers were caught in the area in the mountains as gunfire started, officials said. They dialled 100 to inform the police of their presence in the area, and were rescued before any harm could come to them, they said, the report adds as per officials. The Zabarwan range remains a popular trekking area within Srinagar. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera on Saudi Arabia’s MBS demanding immediate end to Israel’s war in Gaza, Lebanon

Al Jazeera reports that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has demanded that Israel immediately stop its military aggression in Gaza and Lebanon at the opening of a summit of Arab and Muslim leaders in Riyadh. In an address at the summit on Monday, the crown prince, also known as MBS, condemned the “massacre committed against Palestinian and Lebanese people”. He urged Israel “to refrain from any further act of aggression”, and urged countries around the world to recognise the Palestinian statehood. Read the full report here.

 

NDTV: Prashant Kishor seeks bypolls date change for Chhath, Supreme Court says no

The Supreme Court today dismissed a request by Prashant Kishor's party to defer the bypolls in Bihar because of Chhath. NDTV report states that Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj Assembly seats in Bihar will vote on November 13. The votes will be counted on November 23, along with counting of votes for Maharashtra and Jharkhand polls. The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Suraj Kant pointed out that the festival was over and the court should not interfere with the poll schedule, the report adds. Trump appoints UN ambassador Elise Stefanik and border tsar Tom Homan, BBC reports

 

US President-elect Donald Trump has made two more key appointments ahead of his return to the White House in January, BBC reports. Tom Homan, 62, will serve as Trump's "border tsar", having previously served as the returning president's acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice). New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, 40, has also been made ambassador to the United Nations, the report adds. Meanwhile, Trump's Republican Party are edging closer to full control of the US Congress. Read the full report here.
