Largest drone attack of war hits Moscow region, BBC reports

At least two people have been killed and three injured in a "massive" overnight drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region, BBC reports as per local officials. Seven apartments in a residential building were damaged, in what appears to be the largest drone attack on the Russian capital Ukraine has launched so far during the war. Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyev says the casualties were in the towns of Vidnoye and Domodedovo, just outside the capital. The report adds that Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 74 drones heading towards the city were shot down. Read the full report here.

 

Indian Express on no agreement yet with US on trade tariffs

 

Just days after US President Donald Trump said that India has “agreed” to “cut their tariffs way down”, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday that negotiations between the two nations are still on and no agreement on trade tariffs has been reached so far. Indian Express reports that Barthwal briefed the committee, headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, and said that bilateral trade agreement talks between the two nations are still on. The report says it is learnt that Barthwal said India was for free trade and wanted its liberalisation, which would result in an increase of trade between the two countries. India Today: Tamil Nadu Dalit student's fingers chopped off, while on his way to write exams

A Dalit student was attacked by a gang of unknown persons, and his fingers chopped, in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district while he was on his way to write an exam, India Today reports. Devendran, a Class 11 student and son of a day-wager Thanga Ganesh, was travelling from his residence to his school in Palayamkottai on Monday morning to appear for an exam when he was attacked. Midway on the route, three men reportedly blocked the bus at a crossing, dragged Devendran out of the bus and severed fingers of his left hand, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Business Standard reports, Pakistan Diplomat denied US entry, deported despite having visa

Pakistan's envoy to Turkmenistan was denied entry into the United States and sent back from Los Angeles, Business Standard reports, despite holding a valid visa and complete travel documents. Ambassador KK Ahsan Wagan was travelling to Los Angeles for a vacation when US immigration authorities stopped him at the airport. The report, citing sources, stated that Wagan’s deportation was linked to "controversial visa references" detected by the US immigration system. However, US authorities have not disclosed specific concerns leading to the decision. Read the full report here.

 

1,20,000 properties still blacked out in storm-hit Australia: The Straits Times

 

Australian utilities raced on Tuesday to reconnect more than 1,20,000 homes and businesses still blacked out by gales and floods that bashed the east coast, The Straits Times reports. Cyclone Alfred, which hovered just offshore before making landfall as a tropical low on March 8, battered a 400km stretch of coast for five days. The wild weather claimed one life when a 61-year-old man driving a four-wheel-drive pickup was swept off a bridge into a flooded river on March 7, the report adds. Read the full report here.
