India Today reports Mahindra's response to Congress's allegation on Sebi chief's husband

The Congress on Tuesday claimed that Sebi chief Madhabi Puri Buch's husband, Dhaval Buch, received Rs 4.78 crore as "income in a personal capacity" from the Mahindra and Mahindra Group between 2019-2021, India Today reports. The Mahindra Group has denied the allegations, calling them "false and misleading". Addressing a press conference, Congress's Pawan Khera said, "This comes at a time when Madhabi Buch, as a whole-time member of Sebi, was adjudicating cases of the same group." Hindustan Times on BJP leader's warning to Rahul Gandhi on 'Sikh' remark

 

Hindustan Times reports that BJP spokesperson RP Singh on Tuesday dared Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to repeat his remarks about Sikhs in India. He said he would drag him to court. RP Singh said 3,000 Sikhs were killed during the 1984 riots in Delhi under the Congress party's rule. Gandhi, who is currently touring the United States, had said that the political fight he was fighting was about whether Sikhs would be allowed to wear a turban in India or not. Al Jazeera on Russia-Ukraine war: Moscow hit by drones

Ukraine has launched a massive drone attack on the Moscow region, killing at least one woman and wounding several people, according to Russian officials. Al Jazeera reports that the overnight assault has destroyed dozens of houses, forcing the diversion of some 50 flights from airports around the Russian capital. Meanwhile, Russia’s defence ministry says Russian troops captured the town of Krasnohorivka in eastern Ukraine and three villages in different parts of the Donetsk region. Ghulam Nabi Azad returns to campaign in a surprise move, Indian Express

Barely 10 days after he announced that he was “unwell”, could not campaign for his Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad Monday said he was better and ready to jump into canvassing, Indian Express reports. He had also and advised his candidates to assess for themselves if they still wanted to contest. He shared a schedule of his campaign programme from September 12 to September 15 (the first phase of voting is on September 18), covering rallies in Kashmir and Jammu, on X. The report adds that After Azad said he would not be able to campaign, several party candidates withdrew, though some still remain in the race. Read the full report here.

 

The Straits Times: Floods inundate north Vietnam as Typhoon Yagi death toll climbs

 

Severe floods are expected to inundate Vietnam’s north, including the capital Hanoi, government officials said. The Straits Times reports that the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Asia so far in 2024, continues to extract a deadly toll. Landslides and floods triggered by the typhoon have killed at least 82 people, the report says, and 64 others are missing in the north, the disaster management agency said on Tuesday in its latest update on the situation.
