NDTV reports, vehicles to Maha Kumbh reportedly stuck for 48 hours

NDTV reports that thousands of devotees heading to the Maha Kumbh are stranded on highways due to massive traffic jams, reportedly spanning hundreds of kilometers, on routes leading to Prayagraj. Days after Basant Panchmi's Amrit Snan, the report says that there were assumptions that the crowds may drop. However, it now looks like just the opposite, as thousands of people continue to head to Prayagraj for the holy dip. A jam of up to 25 km was reported on routes leading to Prayagraj from Varanasi, Lucknow and Kanpur. Read the full report here.

 

Trump’s 25% tariff threat on steel, aluminium imports raises dumping fears in India: Indian Express

 

In what could potentially lead to the dumping of steel and aluminium items in markets such as India, Indian Express reports, US President Donald Trump has said he will introduce 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports into the US, on top of existing duties. On Sunday, Trump said he will announce the new metal tariffs on Monday and that he will announce reciprocal tariffs on Tuesday or Wednesday. The report adds that this will take effect almost immediately, applying them to all countries and matching the tariff rates levied by each nation. Ecuador election ends in a 'tie' prompting run-off, BBC reports

Ecuador's presidential election will go to a second round after a closely contested first-round result failed to produce an outright winner, BBC reports. The electoral authorities called it a "technical tie" after the incumbent centre-right candidate, Daniel Noboa, and his main left-wing challenger Luisa González received nearly identical percentages of the vote. The report says that pair will now face a run-off in April. The result is far narrower than opinion polls had predicted, indicating the second round could be harder to call. Letter threatening bomb blast found under aircraft's seat at Ahmedabad airport: Hindustan Times

Hindustan Times that a letter threatening bomb blast was reportedly found inside an international flight at the Sardar Patel International Airport of Gujarat's Ahmedabad, police said on Monday. The bomb threat letter was found on board the Jeddah-Ahmedabad international flight after it landed at the Ahmedabad airport on Monday morning, the report adds. Israel steps up West Bank assault displaces 35,000, Al Jazeera

 

Israeli forces shoot dead three Palestinians, including a pregnant woman, in the occupied West Bank as the number of people displaced by Israel’s weeks-long offensive grows to over 35,000 people. Al Jazeera reports. Israel’s military launched a large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank, targeting what it called Iran-backed fighters, on January 21, just two days after the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect. The offensive has resulted in the displacement of more than 35,000 Palestinians from the Jenin, Tulkarem and Far’a refugee camps, the report adds. Read the full report here.
