Vijay’s party moves SC seeking independent probe into Karur stampede, Indian Express

The Supreme Court is likely to hear a plea by Tamil actor Joseph Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Friday against the Madras High Court’s direction setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the September 27 Karur stampede, which killed 41 people. Indian Express reports that the counsel for the TVK mentioned it before Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, seeking urgent listing. The report adds that the plea challenges the October 3 order of a single judge of the Madras High Court directing an investigation by an SIT headed by Asra Garg, Inspector General of Police (North Zone), into the Karur stampede. PM Modi inaugurates Mumbai Metro Line-3, Hindustan Times reports

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3, also called Acqua Line, Hindustan Times reports, during his two-day Maharashtra visit that began on Wednesday. Mumbai’s first fully underground Metro corridor will become fully operational after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10.99-km final stretch between Acharya Atre Chowk and Cuffe Parade stations, the report says. After reaching Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, Modi undertook a walkthrough of the newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport. He inaugurated the airport and will also launch and dedicate various projects in Mumbai. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera: Israel kills 8 people in Gaza in 24 hours as talks under way in Egypt

Al Jazeera reports that at least eight Palestinians have been killed and 61 injured in new Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry. The killings continue despite the ceasefire talks that have been under way in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh for three days. Meanwhile, the report adds that the Freedom Flotilla Coalition says the Israeli military has attacked its convoy of boats and intercepted several vessels as they sailed towards Gaza. NDTV on IndiGo fined 20 lakh for not using 'qualified simulators' for pilot training

IndiGo Airlines has been fined Rs 20 lakh for failing to use 'qualified simulators for pilot training at 'Category C' aerodromes', the carrier's parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, said Wednesday, as per an NDTV report. In a securities filing seen by NDTV, InterGlobe said 'the company will contest the payment order and also stressed there will be 'no material impact' on the airline's operations. The company also said the delay in disclosing this information - the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation passed its order September 26 - was due to an internal communications issue, the report says. At least 24 killed as army paraglider bombs Myanmar Buddhist festival, BBC reports

 

At least 24 people were killed and 47 wounded while protesting against Myanmar's military government after an army motorised paraglider dropped two bombs on the crowd, BBC reports as per a spokesperson for the government-in-exile. The military attacked on Monday evening as around 100 people gathered in Chaung U township in central Myanmar for a national holiday, the report says. Thousands have died and millions have been displaced since 2021, when the army seized power, triggering a civil war with armed resistance groups and ethnic militias. Read the full report here.
