Bihar domicile now needed to avail of 35% reservation for women in state govt jobs, Indian Express
In a departure from the Bihar government’s current policy of not needing domicile for state government jobs, Indian Express reports that the Cabinet on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for mandatory domicile for the existing 35 per cent quota for women in all government jobs. This would mean that women who are not residents of Bihar would not be eligible for state government jobs. The government has, in the past, faced criticism for not applying the domicile policy during the mass recruitment of teachers. The report says that this is the first instance of the domicile policy being implemented by the Bihar government in the recent past. Read the full report here.
Stray dog attacks leave over 15 injured in Karnataka's Bhatkal in 70 hours: Hindustan Times
Over the past 70 hours, more than 15 people have been injured in stray dog attacks across Bhatkal town in Uttara Kannada district, health officials said on Tuesday. Hindustan Times reports that no fatalities have been reported. Most of the victims were children and elderly individuals who were bitten while walking through residential areas or marketplaces, officials added. The attacks began on July 6 and have steadily increased since. Those injured have been treated at local hospitals, with several receiving anti-rabies vaccinations, the report says. BBC on Israeli defence minister's plans to move Gaza's population to camp in Rafah
Israel's defence minister says he has instructed its military to prepare a plan to move all Palestinians in Gaza into a camp in the south of the territory, BBC says as per Israeli media reports. Israel Katz told journalists on Monday he wanted to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of the city of Rafah to initially house about 6,00,000 Palestinians - and eventually the whole 2.1 million population. He said the goal was to bring people inside after security screening to ensure they were not Hamas operatives, and that they would not be allowed to leave, the report says. Read the full report here.
Air India crash preliminary report to be submitted this week, NDTV reports
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will submit its preliminary report on the Air India 171 plane crash to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other relevant authorities this week, NDTV reports. The report will be based on the bureau's initial assessment and findings gathered in the early phase of the investigation. The report will be released to the public later this week, officials said. On June 12, the Air India plane flying to London from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport crashed within 32 seconds of take-off, and 241 people on board, including 10 cabin crew members and two pilots, were charred to death. China warned the Trump administration on July 8 against reigniting trade tension by restoring tariffs on its goods in August, The Straits Times reports, and threatened to retaliate against nations that strike deals with the United States to cut China out of supply chains. Washington and Beijing agreed to a trade framework in June that restored a fragile truce.
