NDTV on BJP slamming AAP over standoff with police outside Delhi CM's house
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after its leaders' standoff with the Delhi Police personnel deployed outside the chief minister's bungalow, NDTV reports, with the BJP describing it as a “clear display of anarchy”. Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh marched to the CM's official bungalow to refute the claims of 'Sheesh Mahal' made by the BJP. They were stopped by the police personnel from entering the bungalow, the report adds. Read the full report here.
Thousands told to abandon homes as three wildfires rip through Los Angeles suburbs, BBC
Los Angeles in the US has declared a state of emergency as a wildfire explodes from 10 acres to more than 2,900 acres in hours. Fire chief Kristin Crowley ordered more than 30,000 people to evacuate, as two more fires spread to the north-west of the city. The report says that dramatic footage shows houses ablaze in the Pacific Palisades area and residents abandoning their cars to flee the flames. Celebrities are among those fleeing the affluent Pacific Palisades neighbourhood in Los Angeles, engulphed by fire. Read the full report here.
Domestic airlines may soon have to share weather data with weather office, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that the government is planning to make it mandatory for domestic airlines to share weather data captured by aircraft during takeoff and landing with the IMD, which senior officials say will significantly enhance forecasting capabilities. M Ravichandran, secretary in the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, told PTI that his ministry had been in discussions with the civil aviation ministry on the matter, and providing weather data would be "made mandatory for domestic airlines within a year". The earth sciences ministry secretary said weather forecasts depended largely on the number of observations collected, the report adds. Read the full report here.
Sudan’s military pushes back rebels in second city of Omdurman, Al Jazeera
Sudan‘s military forces claim to have advanced into the country’s second-largest city Omdurman, taking some areas previously controlled by rival rebel group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Al Jazeera reports that fighting was reported to be raging in the city, which sits directly across the Nile River from the capital, Khartoum, for a second day on Wednesday. The army has now seized control of former RSF territories in Mansoura, Murabaat and Elfitihab, the report says. Read the full report here.
The Hindu on Assam coal mine rescue
The Indian Navy team is fully equipped and carrying specialised equipment such as deep diving gears and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for search and rescue operations in Assam’s Umrangso, The Hindu reports. One dead body was recovered and eight miners continue to be trapped in the inundated coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso, in Dima Hasao. The rescue team includes highly trained Clearance Divers, experts in deep-water recovery, and the underwater ROVs for the search and rescue. Earlier, the report says, the Indian Navy had mobilised a specialised rescue team to aid in the recovery of the trapped miners. Read the full report here.
