Missing Goa club owner speaks up on fire, NDTV reports

Over a day after a devastating fire ripped through the popular Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa's Arpora, claiming the lives of 25 people and injuring six, owner Saurabh Luthra has finally broken his silence.  NDTV reports that the 25 victims of the tragedy comprise 20 staff members and five tourists. In his first public response since the tragedy, Luthra said the management was "deeply shaken" by the scale of the loss. Read the full report here.

 

Hindustan Times live on IndiGo flight cancellations

 

Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu said IndiGo’s internal system was responsible for the crisis that resulted in large scale flight cancellations, Hindustan Times reports. He added that he wants more players in the aviation industry in reply to a query about IndiGo holding over 60 percent of the market share. On Monday, more than 400 IndiGo flights were cancelled as the airline’s operational disruptions continued for the seventh day, the report adds. Sudan group accuses RSF of raping 19 women who fled el-Fasher, Al Jazeera

A prominent Sudanese doctor’s group has accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of raping at least 19 women as they fled the city of el-Fasher in Darfur, Al Jazeera reports. The Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement on Sunday that it documented the rapes among women who had fled to the town of al-Dabba in the neighbouring Northern State. Two of the women were pregnant, the report adds. Sudan has been engulfed in civil war since April 2023. Read the full report here.

 

India Today: Malayalam actor Dileep, 3 others acquitted in 2017 assault case, 6 guilty

A Kerala court on Monday found Malayalam actor Dileep not guilty in the 2017 actor assault case after the prosecution failed to prove his role in the alleged criminal conspiracy, India Today reports. The court, however, convicted six other accused for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, assault to outrage modesty, abduction, attempt to disrobe and gang rape. The verdict was pronounced at 11 am by Ernakulam District and Principal Sessions Judge Honey M Varghese. Read the full report here.

 

Thailand launches air strikes on Cambodia as border tensions reignite: The Straits Times

 

Thailand launched air strikes along its border with Cambodia on Dec 8 as fighting broke out along their disputed border, The Straits Times reports, threatening a delicate US-brokered peace accord. Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand did not want to see violence, but its military was ready to take necessary measures to maintain security and Thai sovereignty. The report says that at least one Thai soldier has been killed and eight wounded in fresh clashes that intensified early on Monday. Read the full report here.
