RBI keeps repo rate steady at 6.5 percent: The Hindu

 

As per the report by The Hindu, after the latest Monetary Policy Committee meeting India's central bank has decided to keep repo rates unchanged at 6.5 percent for the fifth time in a row. The report says that to cool down inflation, the RBI had raised the repo rate by a total 250 basis points (bps) or about 2.5 percent since May 2022. Though the inflation has dropped to its four-month low in October 2023 at around 4.87 percent, it seems the RBI is not willing to take any risks and maintain vigilance. Read the full report here.

 

The Hindustan Times: Ethics panel report on Mahua Moitra tabled in Lok Sabha

The Mint reported that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday afternoon for ‘unethical conduct’. The development came soon after an Ethics Committee report on the cash-for-query row was tabled before the Lok Sabha. Opposition members had questioned the procedure followed by the panel and demanded a discussion on the report. Moitra however contended that the Ethics panel had no power to expel lawmakers, the report adds. Read the full report here.

 

BJP appoints Observers to pick CMs in 3 states, Hindustan Times

Even after winning with a full majority, the BJP is yet to declare CMs of Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh. BJP has appointed observers to oversee the selection of leaders of its legislative parties, according to a report by The Indian Express. The report further suggests that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with two party general secretaries will go to Rajasthan, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar with two others to MP and two union ministers with one Party secretary will go to Chhattisgarh. BBC reports on Hunter Biden's second federal indictment.

Hunter Biden, son of current US president Joe Biden, has been charged with tax evasion by federal prosecutors, as per the report by BBC. He is charged with evading at least 1.4 million dollars in federal tax from 2016 to 2019. 53 years old was indicted in September on federal firearm charges in Delaware, the report further mentions. As reported by BBC the White House did not comment on the new charges on Thursday night. Read the full report here.

 

UN aid chief on new opening of new crossing to Gaza : al Jazeera

 

As per the report of Al Jazeera, United Nations aid chief Martin Griffiths has told the reporters in Geneva that the Karem Abu Salem crossing, known as Kerem Shalom in Israel, between Israel and Gaza could soon be opened. Opening of new crossing will allow more humanitarian aid to be delivered to the war-torn Palestinian territory, says the report. Currently, all aid is trickling through to Gaza via the Rafah crossing. Read the full report here.
