3 dead in rain fury in Nagaland, NDTV reports
NDTV reports that at least three people have died in Nagaland due to incessant rain for the past few days causing heavy flooding across the state. The flight operations have been suspended and the vehicular movement was disrupted on National Highway 29, officials said. Three victims, including a woman, were electrocuted in their homes in Dimapur, where floodwaters entered residential areas and people were seen wading through chest-deep water, the report said. Bengaluru court restricts Kamal Haasan from speaking about Kannada, Indian Express
The court of the 31st Additional City Civil and Sessions judge issued a gag order against Kamal Haasan on July 4, Indian Express reports, following a suit filed by Mahesh Joshi, chairman of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, on July 2. The Kannada Sahitya Parishat has alleged that remarks made by the actor suggested the “superiority of one language over the other”. The report adds that the suit sought to restrain Kamal Hassan from making remarks in the future that could hurt the sentiments of the Kannada people. Read the full report here.
Iran wins backing of Brics allies over Israel, US strikes: The Straits Times
Iran won the support of fellow Brics nations meeting in Rio de Janeiro on July 6, with the bloc condemning recent Israel and US air strikes that hit military, nuclear and other targets. “We condemn the military strikes against the Islamic republic of Iran since June 13, 2025,” leaders said in a summit statement, without naming the US or Israel, as per a report by The Straits Times. The declaration is a diplomatic victory for Tehran, which has received limited regional or global support after a 12-day bombing campaign by the Israeli military, which culminated in US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan. Hindustan Times: Delhi high court dismisses Turkish firm Celebi’s plea against ban in India
The Delhi high court on Monday dismissed Turkish-founded ground handling firm Celebi Airport Services’s plea challenging cancellation of its security clearance by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) Director General. Hindustan Times reports that BCAS on May 15 had revoked its security, which brought its operations across major Indian airports to a halt and jeopardised more than 10,000 employees working with the firm. The revocation of the security clearance on May 15 followed mounting tensions between India and Turkey over the latter’s diplomatic and military ties with Pakistan. Read the full report here.
At least 81 dead and dozens missing in Texas floods as more rain looms, BBC reports
At least 81 people have been confirmed dead and another 41 are missing following flash floods in central Texas on Friday, BBC reports. Most of the fatalities were in Kerr County, where a riverside Christian girls' camp was deluged, claiming the lives of a number of children and leaving others missing. The report says that other areas to record deaths include Travis County, Burnet County, Williamson County, Kendall County and Tom Green County. Figures are changing quickly as rescuers continue to search for the missing, and officials say the death toll is certain to continue rising. Read the full report here.
