Advocate throws shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, Indian Express

A 71-year-old advocate threw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai Monday morning inside the Supreme Court, Indian Express reports. The Delhi Police reached the Supreme Court, and said further investigations are ongoing. The report says that the Delhi Police said the advocate identified as Rakesh Kishore took out his sports shoes and threw them at CJI Gavai at around 11.35 am when the court proceedings were going on at Court No. 1. NDTV on death count in Darjeeling landslides rising to 24

 

NDTV reports that the toll in the devastating landslides in West Bengal's Darjeeling district rose to 24, NDTV reports, as disaster management personnel continued the rescue operation on Monday with several people still missing and thousands of tourists stranded in cut-off hill pockets. North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha said the toll rose with the recovery of one more body late Sunday night, the report says. The landslides, triggered by over 300 mm of rain in just 12 hours, have ravaged the Darjeeling hills and the Dooars region at the foothills, officials said. Read the full report here.

 

More than 200 hikers still stranded after blizzard hits Mount Everest, BBC reports

More than 200 hikers are stranded by a blizzard on the Tibetan slopes of Mount Everest, as Chinese state media say authorities have been able to contact all of them. BBC reports that some 350 others have been led to safety by rescuers. Heavy snow trapped hundreds of tourists trekking in the Tibetan valley leading to Mount Everest's eastern face over the weekend, as an eight-day national holiday began in China. The report adds that to the south of Tibet, 40 people have been killed in Nepal, hit by severe flooding and landslides triggered by the same storm. Read the full report here.

 

Centre orders probe after Air India flight sees unexpected RAT deployment: Hindustan Times

The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday launched a probe after the unexpected deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) system of an Air India flight. Hindustan Times reports that officials said the DGCA will be investigating the incident. The RAT system is an emergency system that is activated automatically when an aircraft loses power. Al Jazeera: Deadly attacks continue across Gaza as Egypt prepares to host Israel, Hamas

 

Delegations from Hamas and Israel, together with mediators, are due to convene in Egypt for talks, Al Jazeera reports, with US President Donald Trump calling on negotiators to “move fast” to end the nearly two-year war on the Gaza Strip. Hamas says its delegation is headed by Khalil al-Hayya, the head of the group’s negotiating team who was targeted in an assassination attempt by Israel in Qatar last month. The report adds that however, Israeli attacks on Gaza have continued unabated, with at least 24 Palestinians killed on Sunday. One person has also died of forced starvation, the Health Ministry in the besieged territory says. Read the full report here.
