Indian Express: Devendra Fadnavis orders probe into Pune land deal linked to Ajit Pawar’s son Parth
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday formed an inquiry committee to probe the allegations of graft and irregularities in a Pune land deal involving a company linked to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar. Indian Express reports that the inquiry will be conducted by Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Vikas Kharge. Bihar’s 121 out of the total 243 assembly constituencies are voting today in the first phase of 2025 state assembly election, Hindustan Times reports. The report calls it a crucial triangular contest between Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (United) led-National Democratic Alliance, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Indian National Congress-led Mahagathbandhan (or Grand Alliance) and Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party. Polling started at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm, and in some places, at 5 pm. Bihar has recorded a voter turnout of 53.77 per cent as of 3pm in the first phase of assembly elections, the report adds. Read the full report here.
Conservative justices sharply question Trump tariffs in high-stakes hearing, BBC reports
US President Donald Trump's use of sweeping tariffs faced sharp questioning at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, BBC reports, in a case with major implications for the president's agenda and the global economy. A majority of justices, including several conservatives, expressed doubts about the White House's justification of the import duties, which the president has said are necessary to restore America's manufacturing base and fix its trade imbalance. America's top court - which has a 6-3 conservative majority - usually takes months to reach big decisions, but the report says that many expect it to move faster in this case. Passenger beaten with sticks after meal price dispute on Jhansi train: India Today
A video of a passenger being beaten with sticks inside a train in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi has sparked outrage on social media, India Today reports. The passenger, identified as Nihaal, was allegedly assaulted in the Andaman Express after he objected to being charged Rs 130 for a vegetarian meal that he said was overpriced. In the short clip, men, alleged to be catering staff, can be seen thrashing the passenger with sticks and belts inside the compartment, while other passengers tried to intervene. Typhoon Kalmaegi bears down on Vietnam after 114 killed in the Philippines, Al Jazera

The Philippines’ disaster agency has confirmed that at least 114 people have been killed by Typhoon Kalmaegi, with another 127 people still missing, Al Jazeera reports, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr declared a state of emergency and warned of another incoming super typhoon. The worst may also be yet to come with Kalmaegi, as meteorologists with the United States military’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reported that the storm had regained strength as it now bears down on Vietnam’s central regions.
