Indian Express: Northern Railway cancels, diverts, short-terminates over 60 trains today

Northern Railway (NR) has regulated the operations of over 60 trains due to the suspension of train traffic at Old Delhi Yamuna bridge over Delhi Division. Indian Express reports that several parts of northeast Delhi, including villages near the Yamuna, have been affected by flooding due to heavy rains last week. The zonal railway has also advised the passengers to check train running status by visiting NTES or dial 139. Read the full report here.

 

Mumbai on high alert after threat ahead of Ganesh Visarjan, Hindustan Times

 

Mumbai Police on Friday said it is on high alert after a threat call was received in which the caller claimed that 34 “human bombs” carrying “400 kg of RDX” have been planted in 34 vehicles for a blast that will “shake the entire city”, Hindustan Times reports. The threat call was received on traffic police helpline. The threat was issued by an organisation called Lashkar-e-Jihadi on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, Mumbai Police said, adding that security across the state has been enhanced, the report adds. BBC reports, Putin rejects Western security in Ukraine

BBC reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected Western proposals for a "reassurance force" in Ukraine the day after any ceasefire comes into place, following a Paris summit aimed at finalising plans for security guarantees. French President Emmanuel Macron said 26 of Ukraine's allies had formally committed to deploying troops "by land, sea or air" to help provide security the moment fighting was brought to a halt. The report adds he did not detail any of the countries involved. Putin sought to quash the allies' initiative, with a warning that any troops deployed to Ukraine would be "legitimate targets". NDTV on Trump's latest remarks on India

US President Donald Trump today said in a social media post that it "looks like we've lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China," before sarcastically wishing all three countries a "prosperous" future. NDTV mentions that this comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping played host to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin earlier in the week. "Looks like we've lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!" Trump posted on his Truth Social, the report adds. The Straits Times: Conservative tycoon Anutin Charnvirakul is Thailand’s new prime minister

 

Construction magnate Anutin Charnvirakul was on Sept 5 voted Thailand’s new prime minister, promising to bring order for now amid chaos after the nation’s dominant political dynasty was again ousted from office. The straits Times reports that Anutin, 58, breezed through a parliamentary vote, trouncing the candidate of the Shinawatra family’s once unstoppable Pheu Thai party, former justice minister Chaikasem Nitisiri. With the decisive backing of the opposition, the report says that Anutin easily passed the threshold of more than half of the Lower House votes required to become prime minister, capping days of drama and a scramble for power during which he outmanoeuvred the most successful political party in Thailand’s history.
