First killings in Morocco since Gen Z protests erupted, BBC reports

At least two people have been killed in Morocco after police opened fire to prevent protesters from storming a police station in Lqliaa, near the coastal city of Agadir, BBC reports as per state media. These are the first deaths reported since huge youth-led protests broke out across Morocco on Saturday as anger grew over the government's decision to build football stadiums for the 2030 Fifa World Cup rather than improving public services and tackling the economic crisis. Madras High Court tears into Vijay’s TVK, faults govt leniency: Indian Express

 

The Madras High Court Friday issued strong remarks about actor-turned-politician Vijay and his outfit, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in the wake of the Karur stampede that killed 41 people. In a dramatic hearing, Indian Express reports, Justice N Senthilkumar ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg, while condemning what he called the party’s reckless conduct and the leader’s failure to show remorse. Al Jazeera: Israel bombs Gaza homes; military intercepts last flotilla boat

Israel’s army is using remote-controlled vehicles packed with explosives to demolish entire neighbourhoods in besieged Gaza City after issuing a “last chance” to leave warning to hundreds of thousands of trapped Palestinians, Al Jazeera reports. Thousands of people supporting the Global Sumud Flotilla bringing aid to Gaza have taken to the streets in major cities, as Israeli commandos captured the last boat. Hamas has told Al Jazeera it is discussing US President Donald Trump’s peace plan with the goal of stopping Israel’s war on Gaza and will soon announce its position on the 20-point proposal. Hindustan Times on cargo flight from Goa to resupply India’s Antarctica mission

The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) has dispatched an air cargo flight from Goa to send supplies via Cape Town to the country’s Antarctic mission, the institute said on Friday. Hindustan Times reports that the first flight carrying 18 tonnes of essential supplies, including scientific equipment, medicines, and annual provisions for Indian research stations in the Antarctic, took off from Goa’s Mopa airport on October 2. Twice as many women removed from Bihar's final SIR list, NDTV reports

 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the final electoral roll for Bihar after completing the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise ahead of polls in the state, NDTV reports. The ECI data shows a significant drop in the number of voters - the total electorate decreased by approximately 38 lakh from 7.8 crore on January 1, 2025 to 7.4 crore in the final rolls. The impact on women voters is especially notable, the report mentions. Male voters decreased by 3.8 per cent (15.5 lakh), while women voters faced a sharper decline of 6.1 per cent (22.7 lakh).
