FIR filed after 21 killed in Delhi fire, Hindustan Times reports
Delhi Police has registered an FIR under charges of culpable homicide in connection with the case, Hindustan Times reports. Meanwhile, grief-stricken relatives gathered at Max Hospital in Saket, desperately looking for information about their loved ones, hours after killed at least 21 people. A massive fire broke out at a bed-and-breakfast in a five-storey building in the south Delhi locality early Wednesday, killing at least 21 people and injuring several others. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar takes oath, G Parameshwara is his Deputy, NDTV

DK Shivakumar, one of Congress's best-known faces from south India, took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka today, NDTV reports, bringing to an end a long tussle that had made headlines for the better part of two years. His cabinet of 13 ministers - including his predecessor Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra Siddaramaiah -- also took oath on the occasion. G Parameshwara, who served as the state's home minister, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. The Cabinet is expected to be expanded after Rajya Sabha elections, the report adds. Shell pumped oil through Nigeria pipeline for years despite pollution evidence: BBC investigative report
BBC reports that British multinational Shell continued operating a major oil pipeline in Nigeria for years even though it knew it was causing widespread pollution. Internal documents obtained by the BBC show that this was despite a warning from its own staff and its own technical standards. The files, including emails and presentations, reveal that a senior Shell executive cautioned as early as 2008 about the risks of continuing to pump millions of barrels of unrefined fuel through one of the company's main pipelines in Africa's biggest oil producer while it was subject to massive and destructive uncontrolled theft and infrastructure failures. Expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee becomes LoP, India Today
Ritabrata Banerjee, a Trinamool MLA expelled for anti-party activities, was recognised by the Bengal Assembly Speaker as the Leader of the Opposition after 60 MLAs submitted letters of support endorsing him. India Today reports that speaking to reporters after the rebellion, which came amid a forged signatures row, Ritabrata maintained that Mamata Banerjee was their leader and he does not intend to split the party. The former Left leader, who joined the Trinamool in 2018, was handed over the keys to the chamber of the leader of the opposition, the report adds. Read the full report here.
Gulf tensions escalate as Iran hits Kuwait, US strikes near Hormuz: The Straits Times

The Straits Times reports that Gulf hostilities flared again on Wednesday, with an Iranian missile attack damaging Kuwait’s airport and the US military carrying out strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, with diplomacy between Washington and Tehran showing little sign of progress. The attacks are the latest to test a shaky ceasefire, sending oil prices up more than 2 percent as the strait remains largely closed more than three months after initial US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
