Sachin Ahir wins key Maharashtra poll day after quitting Uddhav Sena for Shinde-led camp, Hindustan Times
Sachin Ahir was elected the deputy chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council on Wednesday. Hindustan Times reports that this comes a day after he quit the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena for the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Ahir was elected to the post unanimously after Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate JM Abhyankar withdrew his nomination, the request for which was made by parliamentary affairs minister Chandrakant Patil. It is not yet clear why the MVA candidate withdrew nomination for the election, the report states. Sachin Ahir is a former MLA from Worli and was considered a close confidante of Aaditya Thackeray. Indian Express: House panel may adopt bill to remove PM, ministers on detention on July 17

Indian Express reports that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the controversial 130th Constitution Amendment Bill that seeks to remove the ministers upon detention is expected to adopt its report on July 17. While the report is likely to retain the most contentious clause proposing the automatic removal of Prime Minister, Chief Ministers or other ministers from office if they are arrested and detained in custody for 30 consecutive days for serious offences, there could be some cautious notes for ensuring avoidance of misuse the law for political vendetta, the report says as per its sources. The bill will be taken up in the Monsoon session of Parliament, likely to begin on July 20 for consideration and passage, it adds. Read the full report here.
Trump made more than $1bn from crypto in first year back in office, BBC reports
US President Donald Trump made more than $1bn last year from business dealings in cryptocurrency, according to his mandatory financial report for 2025, BBC reports. In a 927-page disclosure, he reported $635m in royalties from a Trump meme coin that has plunged in value since he launched it days before taking office. The report adds that he also reported over $500m in income from World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency firm founded by his own sons and the children of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff. Delhi High Court orders removal of 5 posts targeting Raghav Chadha, NDTV reports
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted partial relief to BJP MP Raghav Chadha as it directed the removal of five documents from social media platforms that it found to be prima facie defamatory. NDTV reports that however, the court held that the case did not involve any violation of his personality rights. Pronouncing the order, Justice Subramonium Prasad said, "There are no personality rights involved. However, I have ordered the takedown of only five documents. Russian attacks kill three in Ukraine as Kyiv hits another oil refinery: Al Jazeera

Overnight Russian attacks have killed at least three people and injured more than a dozen in southeastern Ukraine as Kyiv has struck a Russian oil refinery more than 1,300km from the front line, Al Jazeera reports. Russia attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region with drones early on Wednesday, damaging five petrol stations and killing a woman, Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said. A separate attack late on Tuesday in Zaporizhzhia, the capital of the neighbouring Zaporizhia region, killed two people, Ukrainian media reported. Read the full report here.
