Sitharaman says states that haven’t cut fuel taxes clocking higher inflation, the Hindu

 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that states that have not cut fuel taxes are recording inflation rates higher than the national average, reports The Hindu. She emphasised that it was unfair to blame the Centre for some states’ higher price levels. The Centre had cut petroleum taxes for consumers recently on two occasions in view of surging global prices. Trump Says PM Modi "A Great Guy, Doing A Terrific Job" in NDTV interview

Former US President Donald Trump, in an exclusive interview to NDTV, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "doing a terrific job" and that India "has never had a better friend than me". He also hinted that he may be running for office again in 2024. In the 'World Exclusive' interview by NDTV, Trump talked about the huge support he had from the Indian community and his relationship with PM Modi. Nitish Kumar, Hemant Soren and Mamata Banerjee to come together in 2024: Indian Express

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and other leaders will come together to put up an opposition front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While addressing a party programme in Kolkata, she claimed that the BJP would face a rout because of its arrogance and people’s anger, an Indian Express report said. Al Jazeera reports rain and floods hamper earthquake rescue mission in China

 

An Al Jazeera report state that the search for dozens of missing people in the Sichuan Earthquake has been hit by rain, flash floods and mudslides. A strong earthquake rocked mountainous southwest China on Monday and killed at least 82. The report adds that the national weather service issued a yellow alert until Thursday night warning of a “risk of geological disaster” and forecast moderate rain to continue to Friday. The Straits Times report that 2022 was Europe's hottest summer on record

The summer of 2022 was the hottest in Europe's recorded history, the European Commission's satellite monitor said on Thursday as per a report by the Straits Times. It adds that scientists say heatwaves and droughts are becoming more frequent and more intense due to climate change. The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said temperatures in Europe had been the "highest on record for both the month of August and the summer as a whole".
