Indian Express live updates on the Presidential elections 2022 show that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Droupadi Murmu is leading after the first round of votes in the counting on Thursday. A total of 748 votes were cast by the Members of the Parliament (MPs) and Murmu clinched 540 while the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha got 208. Read the full report on IE.

 

Hindustan Times update on Gyanvapi case: SC to wait on Varanasi court decision  

In an update regarding the Gyanvapi case, Hindustan Times reported that the Supreme Court on Thursday said it will wait on the Varanasi district court’s decision on an application filed by the Anjuman Intezemia Masjid Committee. The report says that the court was hearing a plea challenging the survey of the Gyanvapi-Srinagar Gauri complex in Varanasi where a Shivling was stated to have been found. BBC reports, key Russian pipeline resumes pumping gas to Europe

BBC’s report mentions that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline has restarted pumping gas to Europe following a 10-day maintenance break but at a reduced cost. The European Commission had urged countries to cut gas use by 15 percent over the next seven months in case Russia switched off Europe’s supply. Russia is said to supply Europe with 40 percent of its natural gas as of last year. Germany was the continent's largest importer in 2020 but reduced its dependence on Russian gas from 55 to 35 percent, says the report. Read the full report on BBC.

Italian Prime Minister (PM) Mario Draghi submitted his resignation to President Sergio Mattarella on Thursday pushing the European Union’s third largest economy into fresh political chaos, reports CNN. His resignation is said to come after several key parties in his coalition such as the powerful 5-star movement, the largest party in the country's coalition government, centre-right Forza Italia and far-right League boycotted a confidence vote in the government. Times of India reports that Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss enter final battle to become UK PM

Times of India reports that Rishi Sunak came one step closer to becoming the first non-white British Indian and Hindu Prime Minister (PM).
